Here's me on guitar and my missus on the flute. She didn't want me to put it on, but I ignored her because I think she's darn good at the flute. I cannot get a single note out of one of those things!

Really really great.  It is starting to snow outside here in Atlantic Canada, and this sounds just perfect with the flakes coming down outside.  Really good playing on the guitar.  Did you record this live with just the onboard mic?  It sounds wonderful.  Your missus is a darn good flute player.  Great duet.

Man you got a lot of sounds, every one of your posts is very different.

Thanks! You know, I'm so happy about this site. I just want to keep posting and posting.....I've done a banjo track now. I haven't looked into how the collaborations work, but it would be great if someone could add a fiddle part to it - that's one instrument I've never even held in my hands.

I really appreciate comments and feedback. It's so much better than being on your own with your efforts. What a great site and what great people!

Fantastic. Beautifully played, and a really sweet, clear sound. You were absolutely right to put this on - both for the talent, and the technical considerations.

Would love to know how you recorded the flute. Flash Harry and I are working on something with flute, and it doesn't seem to be easy to get it right through the in-built mic, because of 'breathing' issues.

Really lovely. And it's nice that you can jam like this with the one you love!  :)

Thanks for the comments. The flute was recorded with the in-built mic with the recorder on our bed. I recorded the guitar first and she did the flute on track two. I then bunged on stacks of reverb. That's my favourite device - apart from the AB button, which I couldn't live without!

Many thanks,

I just did a quick Google of "recording flute" and found several pages that look pretty good. Maybe something there will help you.

Also, page 13 of Shure's "Microphone Techniques for Music - Studio Recording" has an interesting tip. It suggests placing the mic a few inches behind the player's head and aimed at the flute's finger holes to reduce breath sounds. They also suggest trying a windscreen (the mic accessory; not the glass at the front of your car).  ;)

Magic information.
I am struggling. I'm using a Rode NT1A and I have tried the pop shield and got rid of the breathiness but the dynamic range is so huge I'm hitting the clipper and getting awful background noise.

I'll have a good look at the articles. Thanks 64.

Fantastic Flute playing though! Delightful to listen to.

I just wish Tim wouldn't write stuff that modulates between c# minor and f# major.  Cheers for that Tim.

Try the BR's compressor effect. That's exactly what it's designed for. It compresses the dynamic range by as much or as little as you specify to avoid distortion and noise. Also, try changing the Threshold parameter of the Noise Suppressor effect to eliminate the background noise.
