i'm actually quite looking forward to recording vox in stereo, on the microbr i often use pan delay guitar effect to two tracks to get a faux stereo sound, also be interesting to find out what new effects it has.

when recording vox on my microbr i hold it in my hand, if i ever get my hands on a br80 i think i'll invest on some sort of stand for it to sit on.

        Recording vocals in true stereo is incredibly difficult to do. Any head movements can cause phasing problems, and/or balance problems. Phasing issues can lead to phase cancellation, which can cause the vocals to disappear if a stereo song is broadcast in mono. I know that don't happen much these days, but you never know. You'll also be totally UNsurprised to know that I used to specialize in causing stereo vocals to disappear when heard in mono. Oh, how we laughed at the look on the A & R man's face when he heard an AM broadcast of the latest single, with NO VOCAL!!

Is it easy to record with the mics in mono?

Judging from the manual, it should be very easy. Whenever you select one of the four track buttons (TR1/2, TR3/4, TR5/6, TR7/8) for recording, you're presented with the following screen from which you must choose the left track, right track, or both.

Page 59 of the manual says "The left channel of signals input in stereo will be recorded on TR1, while the right channel will be recorded on TR2".

So, selecting an odd-numbered track (1, 3, 5 or 7) should record only the left mic, and selecting an even-numbered track (2, 4, 6, or 8) should record only the right mic.

Perhaps someone who actually has a BR-80 could confirm this?

A single voice is basically mono. There's very little stereo information in the sound source except for reflections from the room, and those reflections are practically eliminated when you hold the mic close while singing. So there's really nothing to be gained by recording a single voice in stereo. And stereo effects such as auto-pan, delay, etc. need a mono source to achieve the stereo effect.

It looks like a very versatile stand. You can set it on a table, or attach it to a mic stand, fridge/cupboard door handle, etc.

So i just finally did some recording and started with the Live Rec. I must say its an amazing  mode to have for capturing song ideas. That`s all it`s good for but very important for a songwriter. The mics sure pick up both guitar and singing way better than the Mbr. The S`s, P`s and F`s are very dominant though. I hope it`s not a huge problem if and when i get around to singing tracks in MTR mode.

These mics are way different Jim and i bet you`ll change your way of singing into the br-80.

No, if you select one track the left and right mics are mixed to a mono signal so they both will be recorded, the same goes for the stereo line input.
I don't know if this was the right decision cause it might result in phase problems.

What i do like about the new system is you can see, at a glance, if a track is stereo or not.
The R above the track numbers is widther for the 2 track (stereo) selection.

^then it's pretty much the same as on the BR800, and is the reason why I turn down the input sensitivity on one of the mics when recording to a mono track. Of course you can always concentrate on one mic and ditch the other track after recording to stereo tracks.

Guys, is anyone else having a philosophical problem with not being able to manually select input methods, which turn other inputs off?

Is there something that I'm missing?

example, if I'm recording LINE IN, the Mics are still hot.
