Quote from: Tony W on July 17, 2011, 12:18:18 PMKari, from what I've noticed the INPUT LEVEL (right side thumb wheel) actually adjusts the recorded level. I was quite surprised with that handy feature.

**Confirmed in LIVEREC mode with the onboard stereo mics!

The Micro BR has an input level dial as well - but I can never get enough gain through just the onboard mic on the MBR unless I notch the sensitivity all the way up (and sometimes, not even then). The BR-80 has plenty o' gain (probably the sum of the two mics).

Quote from: Redler on July 17, 2011, 09:41:04 AMYesterday, I installed the drivers succesfully onto my pc and tested how the BR-80 works as an audio interface via USB. I played midi keyboard and it sounded cool. I tested different vst synths on FL-studio...

I tried this, too - kind of cool, but I had different results between Audacity (no problems), and Audition (unable to monitor) - it's probably a config issue or lack of understanding on my part. I'll be looking more closely at Audition and try it out with Cubase Essentials next.

I adjusted the input level lower. If I remember it was about 35 (out of 100). Maybe I was still too close to the mics. I must find right distance and watch the level indicators more careful. It was easier to record acoustic guitar, because I played it more "on stable" volume level.

Hi Kari, have you tried lowering sensitivity of the input on the BR-80? You do that from Menu > Input Sens.

I did it by turning the thumb wheel.

I'm recording acoustic at about 1/2 meter (18") and have no trouble with clipping when the input level is down to 75%

Mastering is a bit different than I anticipated. I couldn't generate an MP3 without plugging into the computer and running the mastered WAV through audacity (or any DAW).

I did it by turning the thumb wheel.

That's the record level control, which is of course used to adjust the recording level - but you can also control the sensitivity of the microphone through the menu, which means you can adjust the level of the input before it reaches the record stage in the BR-80.

Some good uses of sensitivity are to lower it to prevent the mic from clipping before the recording begins (for instance, if you are recording from a loud amplifier), or to boost it so it picks up more signal in the room before you record.

Between the manual and checking things on the recorder, I also see that...bit of a bummer for the self-contained producing folks.  :-\

Before the BR-80, I'd master to WAV on the MBR and then use the LAME mp3 encoder from Audacity to encode to mp3 due to it offering more encoding options than the MBR. One could also encode their mastered WAV with iTunes, or any other app which will encode to mp3.

Now, I record another take! I haven't realize the difference between these two things on my MBR - I have adjusted "input level" on the sens "button"... yes, input level and sensitivity - a bit same thing, but different tho... ;) ...

thanks,

Kari
