I left the original memory card in my lock box at work. I found all the cool downloads for the BR-80 here:

http://www.roland.com/products/en//_support/dld.cfm?PRODUCT=BR-80

Just to start fresh, I formatted the existing SD card.

Imported a .mp3 and a .wav with Song List Editor

checked both songs in eBand, both play fine.

Selected the .wav file in eBand

went to MTR mode

Menu/Track Edit/Import

Source: eBand Current Song
Dest:    TR78 - V1

No Song!

Same results with an MP3

After completing this procedure, what does the V-TRACKS screen show? Is there any data in tracks 7/8 V1?

I was able to import an mp3 that was in the LIVEREC folder. Here's what I did:

1. Connect BR-80 to computer via USB cable
2. Drag an mp3 file from the computer into the LIVEREC folder
3. Switch to LIVEREC mode
4. Play the mp3 (this step may not be necessary)
5. Switch to MTR mode
6. Menu > Track Edit > Import - Source: LIVE REC - CURRENT SONG, Dest: TR78 -V1

I'll see if I can simplify it further.

I'm glad you asked that question, it resolves the issue. I made the assumption that when formatting the SD card a new song would be created by default.... since all other BR models do it. It turns out the BR-80 DOES NOT create Song001 for you. The strange thing is, I didn't realize it until I pressed the record button. I'll edit this post with the difference in the screen display as soon as the tracks import.

You can eliminate my step 4 in the last post (as long as only a single file is in the LIVEREC folder).

It's not great that you have to perform the two extra steps of switching modes, but at least you can import similarly to how it's done on the original Micro BR.

The mode change is a bit clunky. Every time a mode is switched it takes a second or 2 before you can move to the next mode.

I still can't believe it doesn't create a default song, nor does it display what song is selected on the display. I would think they could have the SONGNAME where the peak indicator is, and have it change when peaking.

Here's the long idiot proof version, unless I'm an idiot and screwed it up. I've written out 2 tested procedures.

Option 1

1 connect BR-80 to PC
2 drag and drop an mp3 OR a wav to the LIVREC folder (2mb/s transfer rate woot)
3 disconnect BR-80 from PC
4 Go into eBand mode
5 press [song] (TR1/2)
6 Scroll to LIVE REC and selected the wav or mp3 file (pressed enter to continue)

**The song is selected and plays at this point**

7 go to MTR mode
8 press MENU
9 Press Song
10 Select New
11 No Category (default value)
12 Press enter until the new song is created
13 Press Menu
14 Select Track Edit (press enter)
15 Select WAV Import (clearly defines WAV press enter)
16 Source: eBand [current song] *at this point you have 2 options eBand or Live Rec
17 Arrow down to Destination [TR78 -V1] (press enter)

Option 2

1 connect BR-80 to PC
2 Launch eBand Song List Editor
3 Click IMPORT
4 Browse to the target file and click open
5 repeat steps 3 and 4 until you have all the files you want loaded on the BR-80 are there
6 Click DISCONNECT
7 When the BR-80 Screen says IDLING disconnect the USB
8 Go into eBand mode
8 press [song] (TR1/2)
10 Scroll to LIVE REC and selected the wav or mp3 file (pressed enter to continue)

**The song is selected and plays at this point**

11 go to MTR mode
12 press MENU
13 Press Song
14 Select New
15 No Category (default value)
16 Press enter until the new song is created
17 Press Menu
18 Select Track Edit (press enter)
19 Select WAV Import (clearly defines WAV press enter)
20 Source: eBand [current song] *at this point you have 2 options eBand or Live Rec
21 Arrow down to Destination [TR78 -V1] (press enter)

Step 2 should be "drag and drop an mp3 OR a wav". No point copying the same file in two different formats.
Step 4 should be "Go into LIVEREC mode."
Step 5 should be "Turn dial to select song."
Step 6 should be deleted.

And Step 16 should be "Set SOURCE to LIVEREC CURRENT SONG" for Option 1.

RE Step 4-6: I thought this one out fairly well, and for the sake of consistency, I stayed with eBand. You're right in the fact that it will work from LIVEREC, but when you go to Option 2, utilizing Song List Editor, the files are not dumped into the LIVREC folder, therefore imported songs cannot be selected. You were also right, they are dropped into the JS subfolder structure.

This also covers step 16

Why not? When Source is LIVEREC CURRENT SONG, it imports the song from the LIVEREC folder. But when Source is eBand CURRENT SONG, it imports the song from the JS folder. I don't see the problem.
