I think this should count. It's written by Declan MacManus (that's Elvis Costello, to you and me) & Aimee Mann.

This is only my second ever appearance in the Cover Songs board. Oh, you should be so honored.

Seriously, I love this song and it's one of my favorite covers that I sometimes perform at open mics. I didn't want to be left out of this fest.

I don't have a lot of time for recording these days, this is just one-take, one-mic performance. Don't panhole me on this one, because panning wasn't an option. I opened it up in Audacity only to discover that there is no reverb effect.

This is probably what I sound like at an open mic.

Bloody fantastic Ted, seriously.  Raw and naked as it is, it sounds fantastic.  I am not sure I have ever heard that much raw power and emotion in your singing voice before.  This stripped down approach suits you very well.  Really nice to hear a song from you Ted.  Its been a little while.  Damn fine.

Another high quality live recording. I don't think you need reverb for this as it sounds great the way it is.

There is a reverb plugin included with Audacity, but it is difficult to use (ie it sucks). The Magnus Smartelectronix Ambience Reverb plugin sounds the best to my ears. I'm not a fan of reverb, possibly because the MBR's never really worked that well for me, but the Ambience VST seems to be less invasive. I've used it on a few recordings and can make it barely noticeable.

You know what I like about this one is that you're not concerned with what the end result will be. You didn't process the hell out of it, and you didn't care about making it sound good. You poured yourself into the song and it's genuine. I like that.

Costello and 'Til Tuesday both did versions of this song, with slightly different lyrics. I stuck to Costello's version, which have a bit more bite to them.

I think that if I am to contribute to the covers section with any regularity, this is the type of recording it will have to be. I simply don't have enough time to work on music, and I prefer to spend that time working on original songs--unless all I have to to is turn on the MBR, record, and be done with it. So I'm glad some of you seem to like it--because it's all you'll get from me in this part of the forum.
