I was looking for a different tuning to use for a folky song for the fest and I discovered orkney tuning (CGDGCD).  What a lovely tuning for fingerpicking.  I am really loving it.  So I re-tuned my acoustic and played around until this popped out.  I recorded it all rather quickly for me, Saturday night for the main fingerpicked acoustic track and vocals, a bit today for the harmonica and guitar solo part.  I got one in for the FolkFest.

Second Sun
lyrics/vocals - Dave
Seagull acoustic (orkney tuning), harmonica
recorded on microBR into Roland stereo condenser mic
Where oh where will you go
When the sky comes tumbling down
Do you know what you'll do
when the stars come to your town

I went down to the ocean
the fog was really rolling in
There were more grains of sand on that beach
then there were stars over my head

I've been doing some thinking
and I'm starting to realize
You better be ready to run
when you see that second sun (x2)
That second sun in the sky

I don't know how I got here
and I don't know who I am
All I know is that I love you
You are the one I was searching for
Its all coming down tonight

Let's sit awhile and watch that second sun
Your face is caught in its light
Let's sit awhile and watch that second sun
The end of the world comes tonight
Let's sit awhile and watch that second sun

Alternate Tunings: CAUTION: your fingers have to be in different places

Damn, that's some sweet fingerstyle, Dave...hadn't heard of the Orkney tuning before either, but I really like how it sounds! Vocals and harp are just right - this is cool as folk!

now that's the business Dave. loved the tuning and the progression with the finger picking. contagious isn't it? I can't help but to finger pick at every opportunity now. The lead and harp work were delightful. Loved the lyrics, it's a well written tune. I agree with Mark, a soulful delivery on the vox.

Beautiful clean playing and picking - this has a whole lot of soul. The acoustic soloing alone is out of this world. It all works, BB, and some of those chord changes had me in raptures. A fantastic, folky offering and a mighty fine piece of work!

p.s. That's one sweet tuning - I'd be tempted to dabble with that one myself if I could play fingerstyle, lol.
