Thought I'd throw this one out there and see what comes back.  I can't sing a note but hear it in my head just fine.  ::)

Song is about 3:20.  Wife thinks the backing sounds like an 80s Huey Louis and the News tune.  Hey, that could work!

Starts with lead intro of 3 bars, 4 bar verse, 4 bar verse, 4 bar lead, 4 bar verse and ending.  There are short turnarounds between each which may lend to echoing part of last verse line (notated) and/or harmony part?  Any other ideas welcome of course.

"Different Lanes"   (working title)
----------------------------------------------
   [lead intro]
----------------------------------------------
I come from a city where nothing is real
All are racing to see how much they can steal

Pushing and shoving it's dog eat dog
Mindless souls all lost in their smog

Finally had enough so I hit the road
Heading to the country where it's big & bold

House in the woods - now have time to think
How good it felt coming back from the brink
----------------------------------------------
....back from the brink....
----------------------------------------------
The peace at last I was looking for
Time to settle in - get back to my core

One day on a walk came across a trail
Followed it down to a house in the dale

There was this man sitting on his stoop
His house needed fixing - It looked like a coop

He was whittling away with a grin on his face
I had to ask him why he didn't fix up the place
------------------------------------------------
....fix up the place....
------------------------------------------------
    [lead]
------------------------------------------------
....he says to me.....
------------------------------------------------
A house is a house and that's all it can be
But this whittlin' takes me places I could never see

And once this stick is carved to its destined form
I know it's something special that is out of the norm

The secret to life's not how hard you work
Or slaving 9 to 5 for some greedy jerk

You can't take it with you so why should you try
Just find that special happiness before you die

Just realized that this should have been posted in Collaborations but screwed up.  Maybe admin can move it?

Anyway, no takers?  ORH?  Greeny?

This is my first "real" song and I'm dying to hear it other than in my head.  :P

Maybe the lyrics need work?  Any comments welcome.

Only thing I ask is that you don't sing it to the melody of the Beverly Hillbillys theme..... ::)

Hi - this is a tasty little track. I'll stick this on the BR and see whether anything good happens vocally. But you may have to wait a bit - probably until the new year - as my music time this Christmas will be limited through family commitments and holiday etc. Sorry!  :)

You quick bugger!  :D

And a superb job. It's tight, controlled, and sounds like it was always part of the song. Another beauty!

Sounds a bit like Joe Jackson gone all Americana to me.

Wee- my Christmas present arrived early!  ;D

Thanks so much James!  You've nailed it!  It's just too exciting for words to hear what's in my head now in a shareable form!

(you really should be changing $ for your talents)  ::)

Joe Jackson gone Americana?  I shudder!

Good tune, good singing. Nice piece of work boys. ORH does nail the vox.
We are here on Earth to fart around. Don't let anybody tell you any different

Um....maybe it's just me but I don't think so...ORH sounds like Phil Lynott, albeit a toned down version...but man if I closed my eyes and didn't know this was James I would have sworn I found something of Thin Lizzy.... music is great too mr. Harlock!  I decided to go all the way back almost as far as you could go on SC....
