Audacity vs. Sonar LE

Hi!

I use Audacity on mixing my songs and it is very simple and operating on it is easy.

BR-80 recorder included Sonar LE (light edition) software. So, I'd like to inquire is there any benefits in comparison to Audacity. It seems much more tricky, imo...

Thanks,

my prefered daw is cubase sx, but mainly because i am used to using that software, pretty much every daw work on similar principles, with slight variations on the interface.so i have managed to navigate my way round most, tho i still use cool pro edit a very old version of audacity lol never got round to upgrading it again because i am used to that version. the one daw i never got my head round tho was fl9, but that was more down to my laziness in learning my way round it, i think geir is the guy to guide us on this question. i am sure he masters his wavs from his br800 in audacity but it very well could be sonar le.

I think it depends on what you hope to accomplish with the software. If you only want to trim the ends of your finished song and export it to MP3 format, then Audacity works just fine and there's little, if anything, to be gained by learning to do the same thing in SONAR LE. Even for simple mixing, Audacity is fine. But SONAR has some capabilities which Audacity lacks. For example, you can mix and edit midi tracks with your audio tracks in SONAR. You can use VST effects and instruments in SONAR. You can connect a midi keyboard/controller to your computer and play SONAR's virtual instruments. I'm sure there are lots of other benefits to using SONAR. However, it will take a considerable amount of time and effort to learn how to make use of its many features. If you have the time and patience, I think SONAR is worth learning. If not and Audacity serves your needs well, then continue using it. It's a great program and improves with each new release.

Thanks for the replies.

Mostly, I have used Audacity for 'cleaning' tracks, panning and adjusting volume between tracks. It is enough for that. I must try my midi keys on Sonar...and seek some videos of basic functions...

Try Reaper. I'm not sure if the control surface of the BR800 will interface with Reaper yet because I don't have a BR800. I'm sure I've mentioned that elsewhere.......

But I rather like Reaper.

same with me, love to do all on my hardware sequencers then trimmed it, fade it, convert to mp3 etc all in Audacity.
May try though sonar le since it came with br-800.

hear ye hear ye, ..

when it comes to the matter of using software on these computational machines i would tread with caution. they are only to be used when in utter need ..... so the answer is quite simple ... use the simplest solution ... if you don't need midi ... and only want to trim and maybe normalize .... stick to audacity .. it does the job ...

i master on the br's, just trimming, normalizing (if needed) and converting to mp3 in audacity

Cool Edit Pro  (still available here) was bought by Adobe in 2003 and became Adobe Audition.

One of these days, you'll learn the difference between Audition and Audacity and be able to get their names right. Maybe when you get to 20000 posts. Hiding Mrs. ORH's frying pan might help.  ;)
