In keeping with the thread, I do still open Audacity with a finished sonar cut because it can get several more DB with Normalize out of what was peaking in Sonar.
I don't think many would stay long with Sonar LE because of all the great info and tools available but the upgrades are very reasonable and have a lot of bang for the buck.

I like Audacity to edit simple things such as wav to MP3... cut/trim/ fade. I primarily use Cubase to do all of my Eq'ing mastering and adding effects. Mostly because I'm familiar with Cubase now.... In the past I've used quite a few DAW's... one that I didn't see mention'd in this thread, but I have used in the past "When I was starting out" was Acid Studio... This was a very user friendly DAW... To me it seem'd to be the perfect fit for a beginner.

I'm using a 64bit machine now for DAW and hadn't thought about installing Audacity on it...obviously I'm not being very thorough. I've only one monitor between the two computes, and I'm using the family laptop for www-access. Possibly need to re-think part of Plan A?
