Wet Flip Flops

T.C. Elliott

I've started writing again. You've been warned.

Just back from camping and my wife made mention of her wet flip flops. I tried for something here and didn't quite make it, but I think this came out rather closer than I usually get.

You were playing volleyball
Down on the beach
When you were done I offered you
A sand covered seat
We went for a walk by the waters edge
I loved your shy smile
As we walked we left our wet footprints
Mile after mile

I can still hear those wet flip-flops
And see the current flow
I can still hear those wet flip flops
In the memories from so long ago

Then you had to say goodbye
You had to go home
I promised that I'd stay in touch
We would talk on the phone
Hours to days to weeks to months
Now the years pass by
And I wonder about those 'could a beens'
If I had had the nerve to try

Chorus

And as time goes by
I realize
These memories will always be inside

Close to what? There's no need to mimic anybody else IMO - you have a nice style of your own. The unusual pronunciation of the words does remind me remotely of Cat Stevens, but this is still you.

I love how you came up with this one. Great chord progressions as usual and you make it flow along so well!
