Well, I've checked out this Fleet Foxes thingy on the strength of this thread- I sees what yu mean guys... I might well be buying shortly :) (Mrs R will love it)

Just checking out PJ Harvey's as well, crumbs, she's come on a long way since the album I bought ages back... I've always had a sneaking regard for her, there's genius there I reckons (even if I didn't always like the noise she was making with it!..:D) ... I think I might be getting this as well.

But the best "this year" album I've heard so far is Vintage Trouble's "Bomb Shelter Sessions".
Soul/blues/rnb/rock thing. Reminds me a bit of early Black Crowes with a touch of beefed-up Terence Trent D'Arby or Roachford. Saw them on Jools back in April, STUNNING band. Anyone going to see Bon Jovi at the moment should catch them.

The album was released in the US last year apparently, but it's not on release in the UK until July though :(

I WANT IT NOW!!! :D (having just listened to it on Spotify)

EDIT: Actually, I've just found my favourite album of 2011 on spotify - a new Rory Gallagher album "Notes from San Fransisco". I heard about it a while back and thought it would be @rse, many of the tracks, I thought, were released as bonus tracks on the remastered albums already, and they weren't too hot in comparison to the albums they were tacked on to...

But listening to it, apparently not, it seems like they were different recordings. This is the album he ditched in the late 70s (along with Lou Martin and Rod D'Eath) before re-recording much of it as a three-piece and calling it Photo Finish.

I'm a third of the way through it. It's superb. Calling all Rory fans - it is a must have! (And CD 2 is a live album, you can always do with more live Rory). I just hope the all the keyboards on here are the original Lou Martin stuff and the estate hasn't overdubbed a load of stuff. There's a very odd sounding (but effective) instrument on the end of Mississippi Sheiks - could be a violin, but could be a synth as well. I do hope that Donal hasn't plastered it with modern stuff. But, hell, it sounds fantastic, I'm in tears as I'm typing...

Anyway, as long as it's all original, this is the last album of the 70s 4-piece that's on Irish Tour. Why did he ditch it? Why?!! It's almost as if various accusations of him deliberately trying not to be commercial are true.

Never heard of these guy until you mentioned them, so I looked them up.

Badass! The Black Crowes/Terence Trent D'Arby comparison is pretty right on. Reminds me a lot of old R&B before it was bastardized into what passes for R&B nowadays.

PJ is awesome - I have a couple albums and break them out on occasion. One of my faves is from Josh Homme's Desert Sessions - She rocks it and her voice sounds incredible. Actually, her and Josh did very well. I love the song!
