Dedicated Studio Headphones? Or General Hi-Fi?

Hi there,

I've bought myself a Micro BR for some general bedroom guitar and bass recording.

I'm going to be needing some headphones to go with the recorder and after looking into headphones I've realised that there are so many different types! Hi-Fi, Studio, DJ etc.

My question is will a decent quality pair of studio headphones be OK for the Micro BR, or should I really be looking into a dedicated studio/monitor set?

With a decent Hi-Fi set (Sennheiser HD 555?) I'll have the added benefit of being able to use the Hi-Fi phones for music and movies, but if I'm best with a dedicated studio pair then so be it.

If anyone has any suggestions for upto £50 then please let me know!

Thanks in advance guys,

Jim

i got a pair of sennheiser hd201's out of local  hmv for about £25 and i think they are the dogs bollocks, i used to mix with a mid range set of pc speakers but i think i get results as good mixing with them, also there is very little leakeage when recording vocals etc.

I have a pair of Sony MDR-V500DJ which serve me well while I'm recording, but I find it very hard to mix using cans.

(should use audio equipment rather than food containers then - idiot!

I love my Sony MDR7506 cans. Perfect for studio monitoring, or whatever... I agree that one should use good near-field monitors for that purpose but room I usually do this in is very small and bass-heavy thanks to many corners. I get a better mix and feel for the song thru the Sonys in my situation.
