For my 1000th post, I wanted to post this song.

It's about a moment of temporary sanity.

Many thanks to thetworegs -- your contribution is even better than what I could have imagined.

And many thanks to this community for giving me the courage to put it all out there.

A Whiff of an Epiphany

A sharp burst of air
cuts through the fanfare
dries the idealized fantastic madness
and the layer of satirical political sadness

Release my hold on the dream
Melt the nightmare's frozen scream
The sum of it all stands here in my place
Win or lose, is humanity a race?

Can I take a direction that's not a connection
to a fear or a doubt or a quest for perfection?
Gazing at the surface just to see past it
Can only imagine the eternal waste basket

I let go of the kite and the cloud
Ought I whisper or sing out loud?
Don't want to be shaped by what's haphazardly around me
Just want to have my two feet on the ground

Overlapping voices / A glutton for choices
Imprisoned by my own need to be free
For a man to rise must a dreamer fall
Will the fresh air flow when I break this glass wall?

There is some space for some piano, perhaps just an outro, as the song could use some adding zing around 2:42, if anyone is interested.

Thanks for listening.

I dig the lyrics - the way the choices are presented. Some inspired couplets (past it/basket, for example).
I think this would stand on its own with just the thumping bass and the wild horns. Maybe an insistent snare or tambourine.
Darkly jazzy good stuff you got here - reminds me of a band I used to listen to a lot called Morphine.

It's only once Bluesberry comments that I'm ready to move on to the next song.

Thanks for listening and commenting, everybody.

Even the title is superb! This is certainly off-the-wall musical madness, but the bass keeps it grooving along very nicely. The trumpet additions work superbly, and the whole thing has a hypnotic kind of weirdness that I really dig. Oh yes.
