Bye bye paper songbook?

Hi all,
I'm looking for impression e suggestion about this thing..
Here (in Italy, i mean) it's not so usual to see iPad, eReader and things like that but:
what about using them as a songbook?
I imagine myself:
- playing guitar with friends without forgetting songs / chords / lyrics (songs can be stored and also
searched online at the moment)
- playing in some beautiful place 'open air' without fear for the north wind to take away the tablatures
- ...

Are you doing things like that?
What kind of device is enought to support this ?

when jemima's kite played live on saturday, we had little rehearsal and no soundcheck, but i had a light folder with the lyrics printed out as a safety net, probably made me look like an amateur but my old head needed it.

would have been nice to have had a big i pad on a stand with the words.

But I think an iPad or other tablet computer might be a better choice because you can use it for any purpose, not just for sheet music. Several iPad apps are available for viewing sheet music. Here's one:

You could also convert your music to PDF format and view it on any tablet or computer with Adobe Reader or any pdf reader software.

The problem with specialised devices and apps is that you have to buy sheet music in a specific format. This limits the music available to you and it could get expensive. But you can create pdf files for free. So I think a tablet computer with Adobe Reader or any pdf reader is the best choice.

Many people I see live (Except for serious headliners) have some sort of music stand with all the lyrics and sometimes chord progressions for their setlists.

I suppose a big, big tablet computer velcroed to a music stand would be a cool thing. You could use it for other things, maybe as a tuner, recording controller, midi sequencer, looper, etc. I myself would not go through the trouble and expense unless I could experience functionality that went well beyond the ability to read music notes.
