I found this song somewhere on the net that's freeware.  I actually heard it on a TV news clip the other day!

It's very inspiring to play-over and tons of fun.  Sooooo, thought I'd post it here to see what can be done with it.  Not sure of the name (Press or maybe Pressure?) or who did it but there is a raw "backing track" and here's my take on it.

Man, "your take" on it is great. It's very appropriate for the mood of the backing track. Great!

hardlock

Thanks much Troy - Give it a try and you'll be hooked.  I probably jammed to that tune a dozen times before hitting record.  The doubled leads are a little too much now that I hear it again but what the heck, having fun practicing keeps me learning.  :D

OK, I downloaded it. Now I import it into the Micro BR, I assume? After that, what's the best way to go about laying down a lead track over it? I've never tried this yet.

hardlock

Yes, once in the BR in the mp3 section you can import it as a stereo track into a song.  (utility,trk,->,imp. Just pre-select a 12vx or34vx track to import it to for the panning to say in tact.)

Keep the rhythm off and jam along.  I usually import any backing track on track 1=2 V1 and record leads in stereo on 3=4 V1(to8) to retain any chorus in the guitar effect or you can do double leads on separate mono tracks and pan them when mastering.

Once ready happy with a take(s), just bounce or master to say 1=2 V2 and export that back to mp3 and your done.

Gotcha. I'll give it a try. It may take me some days, though. Thanks for the help. This might be fun!

Very nicely done, hardlock. There's some unbelievable guitar talent on this forum  :)

Bluesberry

hardlock, I am loving the double leads.  They work together really well, your notes are in perfect sync.  And the fact that one is panned right and the other left works very well. It is kinda hypnotic. Great playing, you have a very nice touch with that guitar.

Alternate Tunings: CAUTION: your fingers have to be in different places

Thanks Greeny - I agree, lots of talent here!

Hope everyone doesn't think I'm posting this as a contest or anything, only to learn from others ideas and to see how different guitar players "hear" what the lead should be.

Thanks Bluesberry - I played drums for a living long ago and that helps a lot with the sync.  ::)

On the dual leads, I jam a lot of takes and weed out the one with mistakes to get something I like.  The interesting thing is even though parts sound like it, I never played over another lead.  All were done separately and then I previewed them togther to see if I lucked out with a pair that worked together.

I've done a lot of this and it's amazing that the mind can remember what you did previously and compliment it even if not listening to it or being aware of what is happening.  It can be really suprising, try it.  :o

Here's an old practice example I dug up I did on a Zoom prior to getting my MBR.  I had a basic melody so there's some overlap to the leads:

You really get some melodic beauty out of those strings. And the unique, quirky personality you get into your stuff. I can't play like this, so I can only be in awe of what you do.

It was interesting to see you don't play over another lead line. That's not luck - that's real skill in instinctively knowing what's going to work.
