transferring live recordings to MP3 format for storing on my computer

Hi I'm a newbie and this is my first time on the forum.  I'm sure this subject has been covered before so my apologies in advance.

I'm a 5 string banjo player that plays old time music.  I have a boss and one of the primary reasons I have it is to track my progress as I (hopefully) become a better player.

My question is after I've made a recording of my playing and singing how do I transfer the song to my computer for storage?  I have connected the 2 via USB and I can see the Micro in my windows music program but I haven't been able to get the transfer to happen.  When I try the message comes up "no files found" or something like that.
Any help would be appreciated.
thanks,
Doug ???

Hi Doug, and welcome to the forum!

I play in an old-time stringband myself!

With regard to your question: Double click on the drive that appears after you connect the MICRO BR. Two files will drop down - Roland, and Mp3. Your transferrable files will be in the Mp3 folder. Just drag it/them to a desired folder/location.

Question: did you convert your song to Mp3 format? If not, it won't show up in either of those folders. Do that, and you should be in business.

Since you said "for storage", I assume you want to make a backup of your songs. If you're using Windows, right-click on the ROLAND folder of the Micro BR drive and select Copy from the context menu. Then open Windows Explorer and navigate to the folder in which you wish to save the backup. Right click on that folder and select Paste from the context menu. The files will begin copying. It could take a few minutes, depending on how many songs you have on the BR.

If, at a later date, you want to restore this backup, initialize the memory card (warning: this erases everything on the card), then reverse the above procedure -- ie; right-click on the ROLAND folder of the backup and select Copy, then right-click on the Micro BR drive and select Paste. The files will begin copying from your computer to the BR.

thanks for the help.  How do I convert my live recording to the MP3 format for saving?  Sorry for being such a luddite! (technical dummy!)

Doug,

You need to master the tracks, select mastering by pressing Exit and Ulility together, the mode will change from normal record to Bounce and then to Master.

Record to two new tracks (I suggest T34V8) and after the recording has been made, after you press Stop, you have the option to export the track as an MP3 at 128KB/s or 192Kb/s or as a WAV file.

Once this is done, plug the MBR into your PC and open the MP3 folder. the files you want are in there. If you didn't change the name of the file as you created it on the MBR it will be of the form T34V8_01  or similar.

Good luck
