Voting is closed. The May/June festivals are:

BowieFest

and

PsychFest

BowieFest: Covers of songs written and/or recorded by David Bowie. Can also include collaborations with other artists in which Bowie was a featured vocalist. For example, Queen's "Under Pressure".

PsychFest:  Psychedelic rock, Summer of Love, West Coast psych, English psych, etc. or derivatives of those styles. Anything that's about hallucinations or hallucinogenics, altered sensations/reality, or anything that brings on those types of feelings qualifies. Covers are allowed but we encourage you to post your own original music too. Experiment with backwards guitar using Audacity. Or wild panning, phasing, delay and other effects. Get out your sitar or sitar emulator (if you have a BR-800, for example), tablas, Mellotron, etc. and lets have some fun!

Here are some characteristics of psychedelic rock from Wikipedia:

As a musical style psychedelic rock often contains some of the following features:

  • electric guitars, often used with feedback, wah wah and fuzzboxes
  • elaborate studio effects, such as backwards tapes, panning, phasing, long delay loops, and extreme reverb
  • exotic instrumentation, with a particular fondness for the sitar and tabla
  • a strong keyboard presence, especially organs, harpsichords, or the Mellotron (an early tape-driven 'sampler')
  • a strong emphasis on extended instrumental solos or jams
  • complex song structures, key and time signature changes, modal melodies and drones
  • primitive electronic instruments such as synthesizers and the theremin
  • surreal, whimsical, esoterically or literary-inspired, lyrics

As always, if you want your song to be included in the festival jukebox, you must post your song as a new topic in the appropriate board (Cover Songs for BowieFest and Original Songs or Cover Songs for PsychFest, depending on the song).

You must also type the name of the festival at the start of the Subject of your topic.

Leave the Message Icon on Standard. I will change it to the appropriate festival icon when I add your song to the festival jukebox and add the festival banner to your post. This makes it easier for me to spot the songs that I need to add to the festival jukebox (anything with the festival name in the Subject and a standard message icon). When I see a song that already has the festival message icon, I assume that I've already added it to the jukebox, and it might be a while before I notice that I haven't. So it's best to leave the message icon on standard when you post. But don't forget to include the festival name in the subject or I won't know that you intend for your song to be included in the festival jukebox.

And don't forget that whatever you type in the Subject of your post is what appears as the song title in your personal 'Play All My Songs' jukebox. So I'd recommend typing only the festival name and song title, as in the example above (BowieFest - "Suffragette City"). If you type something like "BowieFest ... here's my song ... tell me what you think", then that's how it will appear in your personal jukebox. It will look pretty stupid and nobody will know what song it is.
