Hey, I was wondering if anyone thinks that Boss will release a firmware update for the Original MBR? Since it has been announced that the BR-80 will released soon is the MBR just dead in the water?

The reason I'm asking is I just got one about 5 weeks ago....I LOVE IT, but I'm passed the date that the music store will accept a return or I would return it and get the BR-80.

Hi SpikeVelvet,

If you meant a firmware update that turns the MicroBR into the BR-80 - no, I don't think that would even be possible.

If you meant an upgrade path to the BR-80 for recent buyers of the MicroBR, although that's not unheard of with software, I have to confess I've never heard of it with hardware. However, you may want to contact Roland/BOSS, though...maybe they're offering incentives?

I was really curious about 3 things:

1) Will there be new COSM effects?

2) Will there be new drum patterns?

3) Is there any chance that when using the MBR in MP3 mode as a phrase trainer I can tune the track to my guitar?

The BR-80 has this feature.

BTW will the drum patterns in the BR-80 be editable?

For the MicroBR? I'd be quite shocked if they added any new features via firmware updates. Roland/BOSS haven't issued many MBR firmware updates, and mainly they have been for bug fixes, as I recall.

Sorry, dunno about any editable drum patterns on the as-yet-unreleased BR-80. I don't think BOSS have released a product manual yet either, and a quick search didn't turn anything up for me.

Thanks, Cuthbert. I'm not really holding out any REAL hope for a significant firmware update. That's why my post is titled "Can We Dream?"

I just got my hands on the Micro so I'm annoyed to find the BR-80 about to be released. If I had already had it for a few years I could justify another purchase.

Maybe I'll be selling a slightly used BR for pretty cheap.

Yeah the new one looks pretty damn fine, but don't rush it .... I think you'll find the original MBR will be quite a nice ride for a good time !! Makes you able to wait until the price drops a bit before picking it up ...

oh and please share some of your recordings with us soon !!! I'd love to hear what you've made so far !!

Being one who has, not long ago bought the original, I reckon I will stick with it, it's a great little recorder very versatile. I used it last night to record a fast paced instrumental in which I could practice some lead guitar scales over the rhythm, helped me out no end.

I wrote a new song for the band in two hours the other night including an accoustic (using the little sony mic) part which came into my head while watching the football. At half time I turned the telly down and recorded the part in the living room. I take it with me when I am at work driving the taxi, when I am sitting around in the cab (most of the time) I grab my battered old accoustic that travels in the front seat, plug the mic in, put the phones on, stick on a drum pattern and mess about, indeed I recorded some stuff in the back of the taxi, wow.

To me this little box is truly awesome and zillions of light years ahead of the stuff I used to use, there is a lot more to the shiny mirror and plenty to explore before moving on, if ever?

All I can say to the poster is stay with it, wait till the price drops, but don't rush to discard the original just yet. There may be problems with the new one, I don't really know how far they can go with cramming all this stuff into a smaller space

Great story Chip !! And you're not alone in using a car as a recording studio. Quite a few of us has done the same. Myself, I've lost count of how many songs that has been recorded (at least partly) in the car. One example is "A song for my friends" that you find on the index page here. Vocals and harmonies where recorded in the car, and the last mastering was also done there.

Hi Geir and everyone else. I have been doing more, one thing is striking me, this shiny is great for Inspiration , having found my way around the device ( and I must say, The help on this forum has become invaluable) and having  it seems a load of SD cards lying around, I have just kept the recorded stuff on the cards so to speak and have a habit of just deleting songs when I think they have served their purpose, meaning a riff or structure has developed, then I introduce it to the band on a take it or leave it. I dread the thought of computers f**king it all up and, being from a more say "communication type era" ( not facebook), the players can add or take away and we all have a say..........This of course is taking it all back to basics, but this is what the shiny one is for, for us anyway...............keeping it all simple has always been the way......
