Oldrottenhead

here are the lyrics.

you're at the centre of the storm
standing firm
remaining strong
you're in control
but for how long
can you hold it together
hold it together
can you hold it together

you don't go in for fear or flight
you stand your ground
because it's right
can you get through another night
can you hold it together

but only when you're on your own
can you let the tears come flooding out
curled up in a little ball
alone
with all your fears
and doubts

with arms outstretched you give support
cause only you
can hold the fort
how long do you think
you can steer this course
can you hold it together

but only when you're on your own
can you let the tears come flooding out
curled up in a little ball
alone
with all your fears
and doubts

and when it all comes crashing down
you've lost your way
and run aground
who's gonna wear your crown of thorns
who's gonna hold it together
who's gonna hold it together

Maybe I'm just in a vulnerable mood today, but these words really got to me. Powerful stuff.

Oldrottenhead

i wrote the lyric thinking about someone being strong at a difficult time for everyone else, (i had just watched a documentary about post traumatic stress) but keeping all their own emotions in check in order to get the job done.

it could be about a parent, a firefighter, policeman , soldier but someone being strong and keeping calm and putting out the fire whilst everyone else around is panicking/frightened etc.

from my own personal experience, my wife was rushed to hospital whilst expecting our 1st daughter and it was pretty scary, but i was calm, in control making sure what should be happening happened and all turned out well, but once the drama was over , well lets say i got very emotional, i became the jello man.

but any road up that was the thinking behind the lyrics but as usual they are open to your own interpretation and i am sure there are subconscious influences on the song that i am not aware of .

thats another thing.

have you ever gone back to a song, with a clear memory of what your original meaning was meant to be, but then that old perspective thing comes into play and it takes on a completely new meaning.

im rambling, but anyway thanks for the kind words tim.

What more can I add?  Its is brilliant.  I really like the key change in the middle, great touch.  What's not to love; great guitars, great lyrics and singing.  Your voice ORH is very interesting, you are restrained, yet there is great emotion there, soft yet lots of depth.  It is hard to say exactly, but it works very well for the kind of songs/lyrics you come up with.
A real professional matchup you two guys have there.
