Well, first of all, and to avoid misunderstanding, I am absolutely NOT a nationalist.

In these days there are several official celebrations here, since Italy has its 150° anniversary.

...but after all, there are very few reasons to celebrate.  :(

Apart from the wholeworld economical crisis, leading to the highest number of unemployed people, after 150 years we have one of the worst political classes I could imagine; the whole world laughs at us, for a premier whose main ability is telling jokes and make everyday new laws to avoid his trials; the rich North would be glad to throw away the poor South; to cut expenses, the government is destroying the school, the art and the touristic resources...

...anyway, when, few days ago, I began playing with my brand new Roland GR-55 guitar synth, trying some patches, I found this one, and even if at first I didn't notice, the notes of the Italian anthem came to my mind.
Probably many of you will not know it, it's not famous as the USA, or the British or the French anthem, and probably it's also less *beautiful* by a musical point of view, than those anthems.

But, due to the sensations I described above, "Fratelli d'Italia", that in its origin is a march, while I was playing it, became a sort of a lament.

I have to admit that I was strongly inspired by this performance of the great Roberto Benigni few evenings ago:

So, it's my way to wish Italy all the best for its future, but from the perspective of a dark present.

Bravo, Alfredo! Probably the best rendition of a national anthem that I've heard since Jimi's historic Woodstock performance of the US anthem. The sounds from the GR-55 are impressive.

By the way, wikipedia has a page about this anthem, including its history and an English translation of the lyrics.

Actually, it's one of my favorite anthems (the Italian)! And a very interesting version from you. Well done.

A beautiful rendition. The passion in your playing is inspirational.

Gritter! i have that album too! seriously!

Alfredo, interesting cover, and without entering into politics, I agree your prime ministre is a shame - not because of sexual scandals - I couldn't care less about that, but because media+government is absolutely scary!

Anyway, happy birthday to Italy!

Thanks everybody!  :)

Rob, would you believe it? It's a classical nylon-string Godin ACS-SA.

The good thing about VG-99, GR-55 and so on, is that it doesn't really matter what guitar you use...I feel very comfortable with this Godin, and through that I can have Fenders, Gibsons, Martins, Rickenbackers...

A second listen Alfredo , can you do string bends and generally get a heavy electric type sound from the Godin nylon ACS SA , as well as more subtle sounds
