Backup but Restore to a Different Card?

Can this be done?

It would be handy if the recording gets too large to Master. I could restore the contents to a larger card.

Also, can you restore only one of the songs from your backup file? For example, by deleting a song from the Roland folder on the PC. Or does any manipulation of the contents of the Roland folder wreck it?

Certainly.

Unless you know what you're doing, it's safer to restore the entire backup, then delete any unwanted songs on the BR. That's what Roland recommends. On the other hand, if you have good knowledge of computer file systems and the structure of the BR's folders and files, you can copy individual song folders instead. You just have to watch for folder name conflicts, and maintain the same folder structure on the card.

you might be right about that. mr. 64, you are a godsend. or rather, a godfather.

after thinking it through, i realize that once i'm backed up, i can delete from the MBR without worry. if i need that deleted material, voila, i have it backed up and can restore it onto another card.

it's all starting to make sense.

but i still can't believe i lost that song earlier. hey, about that, assuming a Roland tech guy tells me on monday that there is a way to recreate deleted data, and if that card was backed up, does that mean the "deleted but unerased" data is sitting in those backup files, which, if i restore it to a card, will be back on a card for the tech guy?  just wondering...
