Just replaced this old version with a re-mix using my DAW in conjunction with the BR-800.  (re-recorded with BR-800 and mastered in Cakewalk)

Here's another song just finished....sort of.....don't know if I want to keep it as is or add to it.......
Anyway, this song was inspired by those currently fighting for democracy in the Middle East and Africa and I tried to write and play it in the genre of a "Folk Anthem".  It's another solo effort.....just playing a couple acoustic guitar parts in double drop-D tuning.

Pushed further and further, from out of the dark,  we came to the light of day.
Sons of oppression, daughters of blight, government stood in the way.

I'm tired of the hunger, no shelter no job,  I'm weary of no free will.
We tried to reason peacefully,  our cries fall on deaf ears still.

Chorus:
I'm nobody's child tonight, just a symbol of freedom's stand,
I am willing to sacrifice, my blood on desert land.

Shoulder to shoulder, brothers in arms, from Cairo to Tripoli.
Strength in our numbers, the power of one voice, escaping from tyranny.

Chorus

I'm nobody's child tonight, just a symbol of freedom's stand,
I am willing to sacrifice, my blood on desert land.

I'll take on your armies, and fight to the last, resistance that will not fail.
This land of my father's, this land of my sons',  righteousness will prevail.

Chorus

I'm nobody's child tonight, just a symbol of freedom's stand,
I am willing to sacrifice, my blood on desert land

Chorus 2

I'm everyone's child tonight, I'm the hand of democracy,
I am willing to fight the fight, a new world for you and me.

"Play because you love it. Don't worry about if it will ever make any money, just understand that playing is an end in itself, and you play music, it will make your life better. And, don't worry about being a star, don't worry about making money, worry about nothing, just sit down with your guitar and let it speak to you and that will make your life better. It will bring beauty into your life. It's a great thing to do."     ---- David Crosby

Now this I really like.  A good strong message, delivered well.  Good playing all the way through.  Well recorded.
Drop D was made for protest music don't you think?  :)

Cheers

Simon

PS love the Crosby quote in your sig.

Wonderful songwriting and performance! You could sell this to Tracy Chapman - she will like it! :)

Wooo... this is a bit special.

I'd better be upfront and say I've never been a big one on "protest" songs as such myself, and this one only just slips in under my "ok I'll go for it" from that perspective...

But, wow! Once I get over that aspect, there's so much I like about this. There's some really tasty imagery in the lyrics for starters. But the recording, the guitars, the vocals, and the mixing is superb... really, really good job.

Interesting you saying about mixing, headphones vs monitors. This might be a surprise to some folks on here: I pretty much gave up on monitors a while back - there's just too much noise going on where I live and, added to that, I can never seem to get consistent mixes with the various monitors at my disposal.

So roughly a year ago I even stopped checking mixes against monitors. Nearly everything I've done in the last year was mixed on headphones alone. I even do the "mastering" on headphones and then I check the final one on my monitors. Only once recently have I ended up changing my mind because of the results through monitors.

I know it's not the perceived wisdom to do it like this... but I kinda feel that any way that gets the job done is the right way! :D

Thsi is the kind of song I like, epic folk songwriting at its best.  Damn fine job.  It needs nothing more.

You've captured a wonderful recorded tone on that acoustic. So clean yet resonant. Nice fills and folky flourishes too. This is a very accomplished perfomance and piece of songwriting - both musically and lyrically. A very fine job!
