A song I wrote about my love of music.
I haven't done much music lately just got a new computer as my other went down.

I am a child of the 60's and teenager of the 70's so I have always loved Rock and Roll. I was a shy child and music really brought me out of my shell and I always turned to music when life felt like it got to much to handle.
The lyrics are an answer to my friend who told me several years ago after witnessing my almost obsession with music told me "It's just Rock and Roll".
Well It's Not Just Rock and Roll to me.
I spent a long time recording the music and had recorded a rough version of the vocals on top of the music before the computer died. Another lesson to always back up your files.
Vocals are terrible and I need to redo them, but I have to record all the instuments again.
So let me know what you think of the song if the vocals were better.
:)

All comments are welcome.....

____LYRICS_______

I remember in my younger days,
I heard Jimi playing "Purple Haze".
Then I knew that I wasn't alone
with The Beatles, The Kinks and The Rolling Stones,

Played my records everyday,
Turned it up loud no matter what they say,
Up in my room all night long,
Listening to every song,
Buying all the records I can
Of Dylan and Clapton and Van the Man,
It's not just Rock and Roll,

(Chorus)
Music is my true love,
Brings me belief,
It gives me peace,
Picks me up and helps me make it through the day,
Music keeps me going
all the way.

So I went and got a guitar,
Played all the time trying to be a star,
Me and my buddies started a band,
We weren't to good but we made a stand,
Down in the basement every night,
Over and over till we got it right,
It's Not Just Rock and Roll.

(Chorus)
Music is my true love,
Brings me belief,
It gives me peace,
Picks me up and helps me make it through the day,
Music keeps me going
all the way.

I remember in my younger days,
I heard Jimi playing "Purple Haze".
Then I knew that I wasn't alone
with The Beatles, The Kinks and The Rolling Stones,
It's Not Just Rock and Roll,
It's Not Just Rock and Roll,
It's Not Just Rock and Roll,
To me.
To me.

Sweet groove, Dave - And I agree that chorus bass line is frickin' killer! The doubled up vox sound great, too!

Songwriting at it's best!

Yep, like it - speaks to me, I can say the same.

If you re-record, for my tastes make it "harder". Guitars and bass up a bit, keys down a bit. Excellent bass line, by the way :)

Oh yeah, and name-check Rory Gallagher (not sure where he'd fit though ::)) and then it'll be perfect :D

Nice composition, and great vocals! Just the keys are a little bit untight. But I would not even think about re-recording the vocals!

Great sentiment here Dave, something I really empathize with! It rocks very nicely and I also really liked the bass line, it drives the song along witha great groove. The change to the organ is very effective as well. The vox sounded fine to me, you may be a bit over critical but they are perhaps a bit low in the mix for me (perhaps because you aren't quite happy with them), or perhaps the keyboard chords are a tad dominant.

Cheers,

Sums me up too djb. I went through the same at the time & still am. I can relate to everything here. Fantasic stuff. Vox are perfectly fine, they're great !!!

Couldn't agree more! I especially like the keyboards on the chorus... adds a nice Spencer Davis-esque sheen. This is a very strong song and performance. I agree with the comments about bringing the vox up a bit. Nice one.
