Help needed , i've just started playing with my my new Roland GR-55 , and i'm trying to mix the input from the 55 with the rode condenser mic , yes i've put both phantom power on and line in mix on , i've got the input select on input 4 , i can hear the 55 input through the h/phones , as can i also hear the mic , but when i listen back to the recording the 55 is very low in the background
I've also looked at the output select in the 55 , and set that to h/phones--line , i think im missing something in the BR-800

You can't record from the Line In and a Mic input at the same time without using an external mixer. Only one input can be selected at a time unless you're using SIMUL mode. But SIMUL mode only allows simultaneous recording from the Guitar input and the internal mics, the Guitar input and Mic Input 4, or the four Mic inputs. No other combinations are allowed, so combinations including the Line input are not possible.

If simultaneous recording is important to you, then I'd suggest getting an external mixer. You can plug all of your inputs into the mixer and connect its stereo Line Out to the BR-800's Line In. Then you're only recording from one input (Line In) on the BR-800, and you can simultaneously combine as many sources as the mixer will allow. Of course, the drawback to this is that everything ends up pre-mixed on a pair of tracks. You can't record the guitar and mic separately. If that's important to you, then I think simultaneous recording isn't an option. Instead, you'll have to record the guitar and vocals separately. That may be the best option anyway because it gives you more choices for effects. SIMUL mode limits the available effects.

Probably you used the 4 Mic inputs. You wouldn't use Line In for guitar/bass unless they were going through a mixer or some other device with high-impedance inputs and line level outputs. The Mic inputs aren't ideal for guitars or basses either, but you might get away with it.

You can't use "line in" in combination with any other input. The best way to do it is to use the 4-input mode. Then you plug everything into the 4 inputs at the back, and tho they're not "line" inputs I've had good results pluging in both bass, acoustic guitar, synth and mics. The input sense has a quite wide range so in most cases there's no problem getting a good, clean and loud enough signal.

Well , i tried doing the 4 imput thing and the mic works as you said it would , but the signal from the GR-55 is degraded to the point of not worth using , i'll try the mixer route , the thing is , i like to play and sing at the same time , i suppose if you are the sort of person who builds a song with lots of tracks , then doing things one at a time is ok , maybe this will force me to record differently

Thanks for the help
