Africa!  :D I never thought of that, but it does have that flavor. Thanks!
The flute is called "Toubat", made by Russ Wolf in Texas. He was a student of the late Doc Payne, who
was, and still is very well know in the old flute world. You can find some information here
www.flutopedia.com/naf_history.htm

Go to the bottom of the page and look for Belo Cozad, Doc Payne and Doc Tate Nevaquaya
There is a picture of a "Toubat" flute. Try and listen to the little song clip of Belo Cozad...
he was a master of the warbling flutes. These flutes are not for everyone, it has taken me
quite a while to get used to it as it is so different than all my other flutes.

Very cool - great to hear some live music. I enjoyed the open feel of this and creatinly wasn't hearing lots of unexpected dissonance. You seem to play that flute pretty well, it sounds great to me and you combine well with the bass player.

You shoudl make sure Mr2Kewl hears this - he is our resident "free jazz" experimenter and this will be right up his street. You might want to comment on some of his stuff and point him to your work.

Cheers,

Nigel

Really atmospheric vibe going on there.  I see this as the music in a road movie, where the guy gets lost on the plains and has an epiphany.  Can't wait for more.

Thanks Simon, I like that term..."Atmospheric Vibe" ... that would be a good title.
Hopefully you will hear this in a movie someday! ;D

Now this is incredible!

there's a real conversation going on here, the bass work is brilliant and the flute hits the mark just perfectly.

One thing I have noticed is that despite the double bass being a really tricky instrument to record you have got it really well. I can hear the fretboard and the slap of the strings, the slide of the fingers and the timbre of the instrument clearly.
I have tried recording flute with varying degrees of success, the best I have found is to put the mic behind your head, not something you've done here I guess.

I could listen to this all day.

On my PiePod for sure.

Congratulations.

Thanks so much, Harry..thats a great compliment and will inspire me to do more.
I just talked to my bass friend and next time he wants to use his bow on the stand-up bass.
That could be very interesting. Both of us have the same mindset of what we want to accomplish.

mr2kewl

this is simply a fantastic way to introduce yourself, Spiritsong.

that double bass is to die for.

and your Toubat expression is so sublime.

you have certainly raised the bar!!!
