Willie – to begin with, i'm going to de-fret it, but the major change is that i'm going to do away with the magnetic pup. the inspiration for this idea was from the Rob Allen Mouse which is a short scale bass and uses an under the saddle piezo pickup.

i'll be doing a slightly different variation of this method which will require a significant amount of modifications to the solid body. when i'm done, we'll see if my theory works or if i've wasted my time and money. we'll keep you posted on my progress.

here is a vid of a Rob Allen Mouse in action. starting at the 2:10 mark and if my poor hearing doesn't deceive me, it sounds as close to a double bass as i've heard.

Cool noodle, loving the bass here. Very nice open playing and a great feel. Love the look of those "Mouse" basses but they're a bit on the pricey side. best of luck with the mods!

Zappa-esque - sounds like an after-hours Mothers of Invention jam session. Finger-snappingly groovy. I like how the instruments swoop and dance around each other.

Cool grove! And thanks for posting the bass vid and link. I'm no bass player but looks like black strings on it? Wow, nylons? That explains the lack of string noise that seems to ruin every bass track I record.....
