Beautiful song Tim, always love your vocals.

Nice for at the end of the day listening to unwind, have a cold one and get lost in a song.

Great song Greeny! Liked the arrangement too. Very interesting bass line that works well particularly in the beginning of the song. Later in the song when the mix becomes more complex (your concern) maybe a simplified bass line could be a good idea?

That's a great tune Greeny.

The lyrics are fantastic.

This part really hit a chord with me:
Quotewhen the swing goes too high
and your feet touch the sky
sometimes we all want to get down

Reminds me of classic Neil (and I can't really give you a higher compliment than that).

I'd love to hear it stripped down too.
It ain't pretty being easy.

Okay to Cover

The truth is more practical: thanks to bloody Taxi.com, I'm trying to see what happens if I write songs that are a bit more 'universal'. I stepped outside of myself a little for this one and tried to be less cryptic / psychedelic / odd, lol.

Aha, you're writing for "the Man" now! But relax - it's a great song and really shows what you can do even for a more prescribed format. I hope this one does well on Taxi, it;s a really good song with great lyrics.

At least domestic harmony is maintained! That's a good thing!

Cheers,

If you're up for a bit of constructive critisism, I would suggest a simpler bass line, to let the vocal fly more. The acoustic and piano are cool, and the drums are so low I didn't even notice them. If you're up for it, I'd love to mix this song, but I appreciate how long it would take for you to upload all the WAV files, and for me to download them. But definately simplify that bass. Less is more, think like a bass player. Hope I haven't pissed on your strawberries  ;D

I agree... the bass is too much. I'm going to see what it's like without bass, or add just the simplest bass part on the chorus. Either way, this is going to be a lot more subtle when I've done with it. I'm re-recording the whole thing, as I don't like the vocal either, lol. Might even leave the drums out, lol.

I do like the vocals, and I also don't think the bass is too busy. :)

But that's all just a matter of taste (and it depends a lot on the mix), and I'm still curious to hear the revised version.

A propos mixing: I think it's a pity that there is no forum for mixing tracks here. IMO it's always great to have other people's seps to play with. Mixing our own songs is always a bad idea, as we are biased and have listened to them far too much. I usually have no big problems mixing other people's songs, but I struggle with mine.
