Tongue in cheek song about my creative process.  All sounds are off of the KORG DS-10 on Nintendo DS-1.

I can mimic the singles
I hear in the Charts
I can draw on the music
I can borrow their arts
I can mimic your work
And then call it my own
There's no way that I could make this alone
I can call it an influence
Call it a muse
There's so many parts here
I could use
I can sample your song
And incorporate

Did you hear your bassline in my middle eight?

If I hear your song
And I like what I hear
Then maybe it could be
My next big idea
Of how I could write
A song in that style
I've been meaning to write that song for a while
And even this song
That I hold in my hand
Is really a rip-off
Of my favorite band
Their music is kicking
I think they're great

And Did you hear their bassline in my middle eight?
Did you hear their drum-break in my middle eight?
Saxaphone part, guitar solo, vocal hook...

Love the lyrics! Now if you could deliver the lead vocal just a little more pouty, I think you've got a dancefloor hit!  ;D

The Nintendo DS/DS-10 is a combo I had my eye on for a while - it seems to get a very full sound with lots of modulation choices...drums sound great! Reminds me a bit of Kraftwerk at times. Keep this away from Right Said Fred, though!  :D

I love the crazy, sparse arrangement and dead-pan vocal delivery. Intelligent, funny lyrics too. This could be a monster - can you imagine the Beastie Boys doing this? I can. I'm a sucker for those electro drum pulses. Too cool!

Thanks everyone for the comments

The KORG DS-10 is a great piece of kit for £30, although quite hard to come by in the UK now.  If you're lucky enough to live in certain 'territories' (USA is one) you have the DS-10+, which gives you two lots of everything as far as I can make out.  I imported a copy to the UK; it doesn't work here, had to get the older version.

All the backer is done off the DS-10 in one take with no overdubs (and actually the main vocal went down at the same time).  The dynamic filter effects were added in post production on my PC / Goldwave.

Brilliant! Huge fun and you just reminded me I really want a DS10!!! Love the fact you did this in one take, really enjoyed it and loved the lyrics.

Cheers,

Nick, there is coolness, and then there is uber-coolness. Your song is absolutely great in all aspects - the filtering, the lyrics, everything.

Smashed!
