Cover Songs / BLUE MONK, jazz standard, trio...
Last post by Jean Pierre - Today at 01:14:42 AM
ah yes, it's not a trio, but there's an achorus with organ... ;D

Uncle JP's little musical history minute

from time to time I get the jazz guitar itch...it's always a frustration for me because I'm not a jazz guitarist...

but I do from time to time, so...I try...

This is a big standard by American jazz pianist Thélonius Monk in 1954 (I was 6 years old, and that same year a young white trucker who could sing Blues, Rhythm'n'Blues, Country and Rock revolutionized music by creating the Rockabilly sound and introducing people to Rock'n'roll).
In short, jazz was to give way to the foreground and be forgotten for a while... but it was nonetheless at the root of the music of the day.

Blue Monk is a 12-bar blues built on a cell of 4 notes rising chromatically, followed by a descending "turn".

There are over 500 covers of this standard
501 with my own, a modest tribute to the roots of our music  ;)

material and method

reaper Daw, carte son behringer, BIAB
1 guitar prise DI Martin 000 for the strum guitar
2 Gibson Epiphone Les Paul guitar sockets
guitar rig effect plug ins basic jazz preset and jazzy chorus preset
1 bass plug with my fabulous Uke bass fretless preset IVP Stomp bass from guitar rig
the drums brushes, the organ in the finale, are by BIAB, the drums solo chorus is a copy-pasted quote from the chorus in the version I based on Chris Whiteman's you tube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eJNQmU6UmEA, which I did at the same tempo 115.

Good to hear you again John.
For reason I'm getting a heaven 17 vibe from this.
Like also the bass lines, very peter hook.
