I've been digging through my songs, picking ones I might want to perform. Here's one I had kind of forgotten about - wrote and recorded it one afternoon last summer when I was cranking away at the 50 Songs in 90 Days challenge.
I was goofing around with it on banjo this morning (Chuck Berry licks are strikingly close to bluegrass licks). I might add a bridge verse, or not - it's short, but it says what I want it to say.
Wrote a few death songs this summer. Weird.
Gonna head to the old graveyard
While the summer breeze is sighing
Those forgotten dear departed
Cured my fear of dying
Before me they were lonely voices crying
Gonna head to the old graveyard clear some thorns and weeds
Find some local history find soms stones to read
Pick some wildflowers give em what they need
Gonna head to the old graveyard while the morning dew's still glistening
Spirits gonna talk to me cause they know I'm listening
Come with me find what you been missing
Gonna head to the old graveyard where the pavement turns to dust
To where the swinging pearly gates long since turned to rust
It's a family plot and I've earned their trust
Sweetness man, very great song. I love your style. I like everything about this one. 50 songs in 90 days hu, that must make you go a little loony by the end of it. I am good for 2 a month usually, on my good months. Great songwriting.
I like this song Chip, even if it is a negative subject matter song.....LOL
Great performance and nice song writing.

this is wicked cool, Chip.
i've been soaking up a lot of cigar box guitar music lately and this is right in that spot of grassroots music.

Nice...It does sound like country Berry...cool lyrics...great job! :)
50/90 subject matter is probably pretty difficult to come up with, and I can imagine it would subconsciously take a reflective look in the mirror.
I love the music on this, and really dig the lyrical content. The vocal delivery on this is great. I find it fascinating that the only lasting legacy we leave behind is a rock with our name on it.
Yeah I like this, it has the air of "Country" authenticity about it. This is a genuinely good song that doesn't for one minute sound as if it was put into a 50/90 test to bulk up numbers. Like it a lot........Willie
Nice tune and I liked the lyrics, too. Loved the warm sound of your guitar. This is real music without any tricks! Fine job, Chip.

Thats it exactly. Way to go Chip.
I admire everything about this fabulous song and agree with the other comments, that this is REAL music.
This is music as original and authentic as can be. Wonderful, and right up my alley!
I wish the big radio stations would play more folk music ... or any folk music AT ALL.
Regards,
Steffen
I'd buy an album of your stuff Chip...

Cool quirky song with an unhealthy fascination with graveyards, marvellous :)
I loved this also. Not the kind of stuff I have ever listened to, but I love the authentic feel and the lyrics are great! Nothing wrong with a bit of a dark song IMO. Thanks for sharing, really enjoyed this.
Cheers,
Nigel
