Title: SD Card and Micro BR: Does Read/Write Speed Matter?
Post by: drutgat on October 16, 2008, 11:03:17 AM
I'm looking to buy more SD cards and was wondering about
1. Makes and models that work
2. Does the Micro BR's read/write speed matter, or is it the ability of the card to read and write that matters? Or both?
3. Given possible answers to 2., if read/write speed is important, which speeds should I be looking for?

Thanks

i buy unbranded fast cards designed for gaming at my local computer store and they work a treat, with standard cards i was getting lots of problems when recording, cant remember what mbr said on screen but im sure it was something like busy. i think it was down to using slow cards. so in my opinion it does make a difference but i might be wrong.

Hi,
thanks for this.

What would you consider a fast card? And do you mean fast in terms of both reading and writing? I would imagine that cards for gaming would also be of a bigger capacity, so do you buy ones that are bigger than the 1GB Micro BR limit, knowing that you'll only be able to use the 1GB?

Sorry for my ignorance here, but I've only had the Micro BR for a few weeks, and I'm still learning about all of this.

i picked up an unbranded card 2gb in size aimed at playstation owners and hi spec digital cameras. as for whether it reads or writes faster i dunno, but i have never had a problem with it. i recently purchased a kingston ultra 1gb card and lost a lot of my songs, most i had saved as mp3s but have now lost the opportunity to go back and remix or edit, so i suggest back up to your pc often and get a gamers card,
i believe kingston ultras are supposed to be high spec but i had lots of problems with it even before it crashed.

Hi,
Also saw your message on youtube, so will respond to that there.

I'm going to create a separate thread for this, because I think that we should share our experience of what works/doesn't work so that others can be informed, but I did want to mention here that today I bought an HP 2GB Hi-Speed Memory Card, model no. L1877A#707 and it won't initialize.

I get a Card Initializing Write Error message. I double-checked everything, even tried the card lock in it's 'on' position just in case, but I get the same message every time. I hope that this isn't going to end up being one of those situaitons in which every card I try doesn't work.
