bodie (david sickler) mailed me the music , looking for me to add a lyric/vocal. took a bit of time for this one due to work commitments and the length of the song, its about parenting i think. my oldest daughter is soon to hit her teens, so not sure if song is autobiographical or prophetic lol. oh had to shrink it to 96kbps to get it on here.
heres the lyrics for the hard of hearing. joking is an early mix and i still need to nail the vox.
Find Your way.
Slow down baby
It'll never last
Burning up
Way too fast
Burned your bridges
Long ago
Nowhere left
For you to go
Open doors
Are closing fast
You need to get
That somewhere sharp
That's the way
That things just go
Don't wanna say
I told you so.
I'm starting to sound like my dad
His good advice just sounded bad
I had to make my own mistakes
To find out he was right
Just step back and let them fly
You gotta let them have their try
You have to make your own mistakes
To find your way in life
Find your way........................
Pushing limits
Crossing lines
Like there's no reason
There's no rhyme
Beg forgiveness
For your sins
Then you're off
The rails again
You play me
Like a violin
Dontcha know
You just can't win
That's the way
That things just go
Don't wanna say
I told you so.
I think we've all bin here before
It's all bin heard, it's all bin saw
Try and keep your cool
And be our rock amidst the storm
Just step back and let them fly
You gotta let them have their try
You have to make your own mistakes
To find your way in life
Find your way........................
I'll always be
Right here for you
No matter what
You say or do
My love
Is unconditional
Always was
and always will
eye to eye
we might not meet
I'm sure we'll
Always disagree
That's the way
That things just go
Don't wanna say
I told you so.
So go out there and have a ball
I'm here to catch you if you fall
I know I don't look nervous
But inside I'm just a wreck
So I'll step back and let you fly
I know I gotta let you try
You have to make your own mistakes
To find your way in life
Find your way..............................
music david sickler lyrics james higgins
was this ALL done on the BR? Great song and supurb lyrics!
I am so jealous.
bodie (david) has just purchased an mbr, but i think he did most of it on a daw. like cubase, tho i think he added the keyboards via the mbr. vocals where done with onboard mic fornylon setting. hoping to post a better/higher quality version at soundclick dont know if its gonna be posted at bunkbeds or nevermet or bodiemusic, i will let david make that call.
hoping to have an update on this one soon.
Another one I have missed. Prefab Sprouty maybe.
Great tune, great arrangement and great lyrics. Nice one guys.
Flipping hell. You could fill a stadium with this sound! Excellent work :)
oldrottenhead, you are a wizard. How you can fit words/lyrics perfectly into a rather complex arrangement is simply stunning. It sounds like you two guys worked on this together in one location, fitting ideas into each other. Are you a Jedi or something (my 6 year old is really into Star Wars right now). As for the music, stunning. I really like the guitar solo at the end. What a great sound to the guitar there (and the playing is outstanding). I am continuously inspired by the brilliant music I hear on this site.

You're not the first to say it and I doubt you'll be the last. Listen to some of the stuff that ORH and Prive have done together, different continents, different hemispheres, same room. It's uncanny.
He would have been burned at the stake in earlier times. ;)

you guys are gonna give me a big head, sorry to say there is no magic involved it just comes out, usually without much thought or effort, no sweating or brow furrowing involved, what i do need tho is good music to work with, then the words just flow, sometimes the lyric can be informed by the tunes title or in the case of the song "lost highway" it was inspired by the moniker of the musician lost highway. that was a while back and is worth checking out, one of my favourite collaborations.check it here http://microrecorders.org/community/collaborations/lost-highwaycbw-and-oldrottenhead-collaboration/0/
now what is magic, is hoopers playing and song production, farmjazz, blooby, prive, steve g and guitarrons musicianship, and of course flashharry and lespaulgolds compositions. but what is really inspiring is the wee box that makes it happen and www.microrecorders.org that brings us all together.
peace and love to you all and keep the tunes coming.
ps. if there is anyone i forgot to namecheck message me and i'll edit this post.
bodie just sent me this mix, feedback please
i redid lead vox, going more scottish as i seem to hit and hold notes better in my native accent.
will be sending vox to bodie for further tampering i presume. had to compress to 112kbps to get under 5mb.
For what its worth, I think this is the greatest song I have heard on here so far. There is a power in both the music and singing that is unmistakable. I really like this mix. I will say it again ORH you are a wizard. bodie you are my guitar hero. Thanks for sharing this most excellent song.

here it in all its uncompressed glory here
I wanna see ORH with a Flock of Seagulls hairdo.
Bump.
i actually have a photo with flock of seagulls when they where supporting bill nelson aeons ago but i cannea find it bugger
"On This Day" beauty. This was one of the best songs I have ever heard on here when it was first posted... and it still is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Didn't really pay attention to the lyrics when I first heard this. Very mature, insightful stuff--almost in contrast to youthful drama of the music. A great combo.
i dont think i could write a lyric like that know, i am railing against the rhyming couplet actually going out of my way not to rhyme but that's old age for you.
(((BUMP))) ... What an excellent song!!!
Heard this the other day on the "OTD" juke box but got
interrupted in work ... the nerve of them ;) ... So I went back to
find it in ORH's juke box ... only 599 entries ... that was easy!!! :D ;D :D
The music! The lyrics & vocals! The guitar solo!
The way it flows and flows is just so perfect!

Great bump - somehow I had missed this gem. Terrific!
spec tac u lar! The music, the vocals....wow...
Wow, glad this was bumped! Missed it previously.
Just exceptional songwriting. Poignant, spot-on lyrics that fit the music like a glove. It is impressive how well you do that, James. Great music track to work with as well. Superb!

for me this is my favorite with James singing..... I heard this in my car today on the way to work...I was floored just like last time I heard this...
the guitars are spectacular...song structure is mesmerizing and those vocals are perfect for this...
btw...there are 2 versions on this post I like both but make sure to hear the one on page 2....
Thanks for bumping this back up Steve..........Spectacular.....as good and fresh as the first time I heard this....a worldwide hit for sure.....long live Songcrafters......
Incredible song. The vocals are so great and the mixing is totally pro, can't believe this one was made all the way back in 2008. And great Scott, that ending solo is utterly perfect. Sounds like a total hit to me.
This is a cracker of a song. Glad to have got to hear it. Excellent music, vocals and production :)
