Hi all,
Been a long time since I actually completed anything new, and this is a repost of a collaboration I did with Tommy Satchwood for last year's "Halloweenfest". I was never happy with the lead vox, which were done very quickly, so I redid them and also remixed the whole track to get rid of a bit of clipping and add a few tweaks.
The track is a bass and drums backer I produced for the festival, with me playing bass and drums programmed on the Roland PMA-5. Tommy added some very atmospheric rhythm guitars which inspired the lyrics (a tale of passion, death and madness of course....) and Tommy then added some amazing shredding on top. I recorded the new vox using the MBR but all mixing and post processing was done using Samplitude on the PC. I don't like DAWs as a rule but JohnBee recommended this and I am really getting on well with it.
This will be familiar to many folks but a lot of the newer members won't have heard this, so it;s "nearly new" in my book.
Cheers,
Nigel
that's pretty dayum kewl, Nigel.
i don't recall the original, but your bass work is smokin hot and Satch's shredding coupled with the production make this....
pretty dayum kewl

This ones new to me Nigel and pretty damn good it is to. Great bass playing and I'm still working to get my drums sounding anywhere near as good as yours. Always a pleasure to hear Satch's flying fingers, top job............Willie

Excellent mix Nigel. This is a hell of a song. I love the ending with the lyrics reversed. This one is a scary ass rocker.
Remember this first time round, the new mix sounds so good, those vox are just too good, just love them, always good to hear your work, as for the guitar, Tommy is so distinctive,he got a style all of his own which I love.
This is great work, a great listen.

Great song!! love the guitar performance & sound effects, super!!! playing on an awesome bass line
Don't remember the first version - think I missed Halloween Fest altogether ::)...
Fine, fine track :)
There's a kind of swamp rhythm with a rock song on top, works really well. And excellent bass and guitar playing chaps.
I wasn't convinced when I read (above) that there'd be backwards vocals at the end... but it REALLY works there.
Superb mix Nigel!
Really opened this one up!!
New vox is Great! Much clearer!
Has a real live feel to it!
wow a blast from the past , really loving this mix
It's new to me and it sounds great.

Ahhh the halloween fest ...
yep remember this (and the bass and drums even more so ;) ) .....
This is a great remix. Agree with Tharek, the new mix is clearer more open and the new vox is fab !!!
There where quite a few collabs during that fest!! Maybe we can learn something from what we did then for future fests, to encourage more collabs ?
Thanks for the feedback all, much appreciated. I think Andy R got that "swamp rhythm" reference dead right. I produced a backer for the Fest and had my own ideas for a full song. Tommy came back with some rhythm guitars that took it in a totally different direction (which was kind of "swampy") and that made me think about a couple of doomed lovers in a kind of Southern horror movie setting, and the whole thing grew from there.
Collabs are good, because as Henwrench pointed out, this made me do something very different to my usual stuff. To Geir's point, not sure why we got a lot of collabs in that fest but I guess it may be the subject matter. Beatles fest certainly generated a lot of collabs.
Cheers,
Nigel
Yes, this tune was badass then and superbadass now!! The production, playing and singing on this is spectacular.
DAW, what are you mad??!!?? :D Actually, valuable time stolen from bouncing has forced me to use Audacity on some tunes. A "process" bounce option would be such a good feature on box units.
Oh, and super job on the vox - You rocked 'em!
Mark

Yup, mad! Although I have to say I am veering back to the BR 800 now because I just did the "Electronic" track with the MBR plugged straight into my new monitors and that just worked a treat. But a good DAW does have its place - backward vox are much easier to do in a DAW!
Cheers,
Nigel
Sounds good to me as well you are on to a winning formula the two of you !!
Cool post guys !!

This was really worth the effort, as it sounds superb, every part of it just at the right level.
Of course it does help that what you are mixing is a good song, and this really is an outstanding piece of work, brilliantly constructed and performed, and Tommy's supreme guitar work fits perfectly.
This is great Nigel! The vox and guitar work are both fantastic......I've not heard this so it is new to me......do some more!
