This is a song that is fantastic, and not just because I have a cabin in the woods. While listening, I envisioned everyone meeting at our cabins, and realized that the sleeping arrangements would be a little different. All the instruments that we brought together would be loading up the insides of the cabins, and we would be resigned to sleeping in tents.
I'm with Dave, Group hug time. Great song Geir.

Great song Geir....I was wondering when someone was gonna write a song like this. It`s amazing how we all probably feel the same just from sharing and liking each others music.
Hell yeah we should all meet up and do a cd like Hearing Aid, and a concert like Live Aid.
When i win the lottery it will definitely happen. ;D
Beautiful tune...

This is a beautiful song by Geir that expresses a most wonderful sentiment...and a certain instrument mentioned also happened to catch my ear. :) You really have an admirable range of musical styles as well as a knack for lyrics.
Thanks Geir - this one's iPod bound.

Ok, right then, where do we begin? I fucking love this song. This song makes me wanna weep and makes wanna meet you all. This song makes me wanna buy it. I think this song should be the official Songcrafters song. I think we should have this song PERMANTLEY in the 'featured song' banner as like our anthem. The message and the love in this song should always be there, always one click away. PLEASE SOMEBODY, 64, ORH, SIR FLASH..... with all the shit going on in the world, the world needs 'A Song For My Friends'.

A song like this doesn't come around often and these opportunities are few and far between. Can you imagine the ultimate song of collaboration and friendship. I see it possibly going 2 ways. 1= split up the line and everyone play their favorite instrument sort of a showcase or 2=Keep the music simple ( a few string instruments and split the lines and mix as if everyone is sitting around in someones basement or the back porch of someone house. Geir, No BS you are a genius. I just love the lyrics, the music and the sentiment. Best of Luck with it...

I think this song is a masterpiece as it is. So perhaps, rather than adding to it, people could post their own interpretation of it in the Songcrafter Tributes (https://songcrafters.org/forum/index.php?board=101.0) board? I bet we'd get some really amazing covers of this wonderful song.

I agree with all the comments about making this our anthem. It encapsulates everything we do, everything we want, and everything we are. The sentiment and power are one thing, but this is such a sublimely beautiful song in it's own right. It's a staggering piece of songwriting, Geir. It's like all of your talent and musical genius distilled into it's purest form. To say I'm moved is an understatement. To say I agree with every word is much easier. I'm often spellbound by your songs, but this one goes beyond that even.

Just got to this because I've got so much catching up to do and I can only agree that this is just fabulous at every level. It's a great, inspiring song that really lifts the spirit and sends tingles up and down the spine. It works as a special song for all of us, but it also works on a wider level, this could be a huge global hit.
Brilliant chord sequences that John and Paul would be proud of and great vocals as well. This is a song to be treasured, and it will be.
Well done Geir!!!
Cheers,
Nigel

Not sure what else can I add to this string of posts~~~ For some reason I decided to push the button to check things out in the songcrafters website, and what a surprise, Geir! I feel like the prodigal friend returning home - the posting of the song on the home page sure caught my eye (and ear), and SOUL - after getting done listening to it, well it was an automatic download, which I am listening to while typing this note to you and the rest of songcrafters... Well done my friend! As I a fly to another Village this morning, will have this song with me to keep me company, and boost me back into music, which seems to be just a few echoes in the wind - nothing like sharing a common feeling!!!

This comes up in my mp3 player from time to time. It's absolutely timeless. Geir songs always have that knack of hitting the emotional button, but even more so now I've met The Viking in person! Met on indeed! Great song and sentiment Geir, to my shame, I haven't listened to this before today, despite it being on the front page.
And for any of you that haven't 'MET', then do so, its a great experience and sooo much fun.

It's been 2,391 days since this was first posted, and I never commented on it.
The song was posted just a few days after my father died (http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/name/ted-johnson-obituary?pid=1000000144481607). I barely remember hearing it. And even though it's been pinned to the home page, I haven't revisited it until today, thanks to a live MET version (https://www.facebook.com/james.higgins.986/videos/10155221054432176/) that was shared with me.
I'm not the most prolific song poster, or the most active member of this community anymore. But I have chosen to share here, obliquely, some of the major life events of the last 2,391 days:
I saw my marriage failing (https://songcrafters.org/forum/index.php?topic=21182.msg260750#msg260750)
My marriage ended (https://songcrafters.org/forum/index.php?topic=25265.msg307178#msg307178)
I moved to Madagascar... (https://songcrafters.org/forum/index.php?topic=22770.msg279244#msg279244)
Where I saw my country slipping into anti-intellectual protofacism (https://songcrafters.org/forum/index.php?topic=26323.msg319277#msg319277)...
So this song really captures something about this online community, and what it means to me. In spite of the changes in my life I think of my friends here as people I can connect with through time and distance.
The genius of the song is that it's so sad. It's an anti-anthem. Being far from good friends is hard. It's one of the things that I makes me realize that I won't stay in Madagascar forever. Being far from good friends you've never met doesn't make it easier. There's something about words and language and music that hacks our monkey brains and makes us believe we really know these people. And maybe we do. Or can. Let's make that happen.
You nailed it, Geir. Please accept my gratitude, albeit 2,391 days late.

Well put Ted... I feel quite the same... I haven't been around for a while and have popped in from time to time. I see the glue "Admin" has kept this site going. My hat is off to them for keeping this going as long as they have. It was really nice to come back with such a warm welcome... We all come and go from time to time... It's nice to have a place to call my "virtual home". I'm sure everyone that has been here for any amount of time feels the same. This song is the "Hallmark" of this site. The lyrics say it all... Maybe one day I'll be in an MET session. That would be a real blast and an honor to be a part of. Cheers to all you songcrafters and especially to my Viking buddy to come up with such a great tune.

Sometimes it's easy to overlook the obvious... I see this song on the SC homepage ever time I visit the site & I've never listened until now...And I'm SO glad I did! Absolutely beautiful! Sums up the ethic of Songcrafters perfectly!
