HELP! I've got a feeling . It's gonna be a hard days night .... wait .... don't let me down, because.. I want to tell you ... I'll follow the sun, while my guitar gently weeps.
When I get home, I'm only sleeping. I should have known better, back in the USSR. Two of us come together and I love her. Everybody's got gomething to hide except me and my monkey and your bird can sing. Tell me why, why don't we do it in the road?
It's all too much .... let it be!
It won't be long, in spite of all the danger: Mean Mr. Mustard, Maggie Mae, Maxwell's silver hammer... we can work it out !!
Do you want to know a secret? Doctor Robert carry that weight!! Ask me why !!!
Something your mother should know: You like me too much !! ;D
You know my name( look up the number)
The End
P.S. I love you

I know what you mean. It's what I've voted for this time, even though it wasn't really on my radar before. There are so many songs to choose from, with infinite possibilities to interpret them in a fresh way.
Should I guess which one you'd be doing?!
Something with 'Watchtower' in the title...?????!

oh yea, good point, I guess I better change my vote...so confusing. How about songs about voting? Summer songs looks fun, Bob Dylan looks important and exciting... Bob Dylan, what an interesting idea, he has a few good songs doesn't he? Bob Dylan on the mandolin, yes I see the possibilities, All along the watchtower on mandolin, hmmmmm, Bob Dylan done in a bluegrass style, hmmmm, Bob Dylan done as heavy blues rock, hmmmmm. I like it.

The whole of Bob's 'Nashville Skyline' album is littered with banjos, steel guitars and various other roots / folk / country instruments. Might even be a mandolin on there! A couple of songs are very bluegrass. One of my favourite albums of his, although I'm not sure many people would agree with me on that!
Did Bob Dylan do any summer songs? That would kill two birds with one stone! Or maybe a summer song done in the style of Bob Dylan!

How about a Yardbirds Fest on the list - Beck, Clapton and Page all strutting their stuff early in their careers, and there were some good songs to either parody, or do straight. I'd love to hear a new twist on - "over, under sideways, down" or "Shapes", Even "For Your Love" and "Still I'm Sad" were unique in their time.
Is it possible to outBeck Beck and co.?

As some of you may know, I'm a total Beatles nut, but we already have at least a page of Beatles covers we've done previously on here. I've already done collabs on 'Julia', 'Blackbird' and 'Here Comes the Sun', amongst many others by other people. My favourite so far was Hoopers 'Strawberry Fields' - it'll be a hard one to beat!
i.e. The Beatles have been done!
I still haven't recorded my open-mic favourite Norwegian Wood though... lol

Yeah ... I know ... we can do Beatles Anytime at all ... I've done "Why don't we do it in the road" Lady madonna" and 4 versions of Blackbird myself ... but there sooooooooooooooo much good stuff to chose from ... in so many styles... it's something for everyone, and it would be really great to hear some of my favorite tunes interpreted by some of my favorite musicians !! Ooooh... we could slip the Bowie / Lennon song 'Fame' in too.... now there's a thought... !

here is the rule description for what a summer song really is:
* The title MUST contain the word summer, rain or thunderstorm * Only grumpy songs allowed * You have to use a f*cking kazoo * No bass allowed * If harmony vox are used they must be BTBB (better than Beach Boys) * You cannot use verbs with more than 3 letters * You must smile while recording. * Posting of songs not accompanied by pics of blondes will be deleted !! * 4/4 is not allowed (3/4 only by dispensation (application form found in the basement) ) * If you have any four-legged creature in your houshold, you must stand on one leg when recording. * Sweedish, Finnish and Urdu are the only acceptable languages

A summer song is any song with a strong summer theme. Most have the word "summer" in the title:
"Summer in the City" - The Lovin' Spoonful
"Summertime" - George Gershwin, etc.
"Summertime Blues" - Eddie Cochran, Blue Cheer, The Who, etc.
"Hot Fun in the Summertime" - Sly & the Family Stone
"A Summer Song" - Chad and Jeremy
"Summer Holiday" - Cliff Richard and The Shadows
"The Boys of Summer" - Don Henley
etc.
But that isn't a requirement. There are lots of summer songs that don't include the word "summer" in the title:
"Surfin' Safari" - The Beach Boys (or almost anything by The Beach Boys)
"California Sun" - The Riverias
"Under The Boardwalk" - The Drifters
"(I'm A) Girl Watcher" - The O'Kaysions
"School's Out" - Alice Cooper
"Rockaway Beach" The Ramones
"Walking on Sunshine" - Katrina and The Waves
"Margaritaville" - Jimmy Buffet
etc.
And, of course, original songs with a strong summer theme are also welcome.

I like the parody idea too Gnasty - I would love to hear what some of the "nut-jobs" on this site could come up with.
You could always do a Beatle's Parody
I Wanna Hold Your Gland
Why Don't We Do It with a Toad
Paint Stripper (Sung to the tune of Day Tripper)
Good Day Moonshine
Hey Bullfrog
I saw Herb Standing Bare

I'm a step ahead of you, BB. I've been working on the BeatlesFest jukebox all day. It has 28 songs so far by 20 members. And I've probably missed some. I just searched for "Beatles" and added the songs that turned up from the search.
Of course, that doesn't mean that The Beatles have won the vote. The poll doesn't close until tomorrow at 7:05:49 PM GMT, so anything could happen. If the Beatles don't win this time, I'll put the BeatlesFest jukebox on hold until it eventually gets voted in (we know it will sooner or later).

Voting is closed and it's going to be a BeatlesFest this time.
Here's the BeatlesFest jukebox, containing 44 previously posted Beatles songs by 25 Songcrafters members. It will be interesting to see what the final count will be at the end of BeatlesFest. I predict a new record (the current record is UnpluggedFest with 82 songs).
I've still got some work to do on the graphics but I think I got most of the songs. If you know of any I missed, let me know so I can add them.
Please remember that BeatlesFest doesn't start until July 25th, so don't post your Beatles songs until then. There are no prizes for being the first to post.
Meanwhile, ZappaFest continues until July 24th. I hope we'll have a few more entries before it ends. It only has 13 songs so far. :(

I love your enthusiasm Geir, I'll have to see if there is one I can do with my mandolin. I can't get away from the damn thing, I am addicted, such a lovely instrument, who knew that I would love it so much. If you have any ideas for one that would sound good mandolin style let me know Geir.

Here's a sorted list of the Beatles songs that have already been done. Where there's a number in brackets beside a song title, it indicates the number of times that song has been done so far. Of course, you're welcome to do your own version of any of these songs (except Blackbird ;)), but I imagine that most of you will prefer to do something that hasn't been done yet, especially since there are so many great songs to choose from. The solo works of any of The Beatles are also welcome.

Tho it's merged with Cream, this one is mostly a Beatles tune too:
Quote from: 64Guitars on July 17, 2010, 11:54:57 AMOkay. I'll change Elvis Presley to Elvis (Presley or Costello) and I'll add AC/DC and Led Zeppelin. I'll make the changes to this poll so that I'll remember them when it's time for the next poll and I copy this list.
Alright! Don`t worry i`ll give credit where credit is due!
e.g Stairway To Heaven (Page, Plant, Gnasty) ;D
The rule in my local music shop is
'anyone playing staiway to heaven will be banned from the shop.'
I think that it's an excellent rule. :)

I've always liked Peter & Gordon's "A World Without Love" and Billy J Kramer's "From a Window". I'd love to hear a cover of these or any of the others for BeatlesFest.
Here are some more good sources of Beatles songs, including solo work and songs written for others:

It ain't no secret that this band they call the Beatles is a particular favourite of mine (I was raised on 'em, amongst others), and old henwrench thinks it's plain to see... Title: Songs needed for BeatlesFest to complete albums
Post by: 64Guitars on August 23, 2010, 06:23:51 PM
It would be nice if we could manage to complete one or more Beatles albums, so I've been keeping track of what's done and what's needed. Here's the current ranking based on the number of songs needed to complete the album:
Needed Rubber Soul (1965) 10/14 71.4 % 4 Abbey Road (1969) 12/17 70.6 % 5 A Hard Day's Night (1964) 7/13 53.8 % 6 Past Masters - Volume Two 8/15 53.3 % 7 Magical Mystery Tour 4/11 36.4 % 7 Help! (1965) 6/14 42.9 % 8 Revolver (1966) 6/14 42.9 % 8 Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967) 5/13 38.5 % 8 Let It Be (1970) 3/12 25.0 % 9 Please Please Me (1963) 4/14 28.6 % 10 Beatles for Sale (1964) 2/14 14.3 % 12 Yellow Submarine (1969) 1/13 7.7 % 12 Past Masters - Volume One 5/18 27.8 % 13 With The Beatles (1963) 1/14 7.1 % 13 The Beatles (aka the White Album) (1968) 15/30 50.0 % 15
So, Rubber Soul stands the best chance of being completed. Here's what's needed:
Side 1: 5. "Think for Yourself" 7. "Michelle"
Side 2 1. "What Goes On" 5. "Wait"
The next closest to completion is Abbey Road, which needs:
Side 1: 3. "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" 4. "Oh! Darling" 5. "Octopus's Garden" 6. "I Want You (She's So Heavy)"
Side 2: 2. "Because"
What do you think? Can we manage to finish an album?

Title: Extend BeatlesFest to October 16th?
Post by: 64Guitars on September 02, 2010, 07:44:59 AM
The BeatlesFest has been a huge success and I, for one, hate to see it end. There are still so many songs that we could do, and it would be great to complete a few albums. So I was thinking of extending BeatlesFest for another six weeks, running it simultaneously with PirateFest. I don't want to take away from PirateFest but I got the impression from earlier polls and comments that there are only a few members who are really into PirateFest anyway. So I thought that those members could do as many pirate songs as they like and other members, who may not be interested in doing a pirate song, can continue working on Beatles songs. Maybe someone will do a Beatles song pirate-style and enter it both festivals ("Arrr, matey. We all be livin' in a yeller submarine").
What do you think? Is anyone opposed to this idea? Would it be unfair to those members who want a PirateFest?

PirateFest? I never saw a vote for the next festival. I just see the old poll and that's it. Oh well, I suppose it was going to have to happen eventually. ;D
I don't see why the Beatlesfest shouldn't be extended. It garnered a lot of participation(And is still doing so), which is good for the site. I only have one more left in me, which will soon be done, but with more time I might want to take a crack at another one. I will admit that I dreaded this one, but like the kid dragged to summer camp kicking and screaming I actually had a lot of fun once I got involved.

I think a little concurrent festival activity wouldn't hurt and I'd love to do a couple more Beatles songs (and see a few albums 'completed') before it's over.
Either that, or a BeatlesFest II. ;D

A few others also expressed an interest in PirateFest. But then a few more festival suggestions popped up and we had our first vote instead, which was won by Unplugged Fest (BeatlesFest was a close second at only 3 votes behind).
In May 2010, I decided to schedule PirateFest from Sept 5 to Oct 16 to coincide with International Talk Like a Pirate Day on September 19th. I've mentioned it several times since then.
Likewise, there will be no vote for YuleFest, which will be repeated every year at Christmas time. This year, it runs from Nov 28th to Jan 8th.

Ok, cool. I'm not a big participant in the Gen Dis section, so I miss out on a lot of the posts. Thank you for the explanation - I look forward to PirateFest!
What about the Halloween one? I liked that one a lot - Lots of great material.

We could do that again if enough members want it. I won't make it an annual thing but I'll add it to the next vote which begins Oct 3rd (the winning festival will run from Oct 17 to Nov 27).

Frigging in the rigging a la Pistols stylee!
I was expecting pirate fest and I think it's a great idea to extend BeatleFest.
The next vote in October should be for Bowie. Not that I would like to influence anyone, but I think that the choice should be Bowie fest? Yes/No.

A Yes vote to Bowiefest from me...I've been wanting one of those for a while. ;D
In the future, I'd also like have the opportunity to vote for the Velvet Underground/Lou Reed, and Syd Barrett/Pink Floyd, and wider genres like Psychedelia, Garage Rock, Fifties, Surf, Electronic, etc.
