Post by: Facemask93 on July 10, 2010, 05:20:15 PM
FolkFest (banner image missing)

This is a song reply to a post Tharek did back in feb 2010 , the lyrics were inspired by the picture of a soldier giving candy to local children , it's an mbr  table-top recording , two guitars one vox

Our ways jeopardised , and our lives pressurized
From tormented silence , to frustrated violence
You just did'nt realise
And in your global plans , to tame our ravaged lands
Outcomes unforeseen , blunders in-between
Could'nt hold those shifting sands

And you've caught your hand in the cookie jar
Delicious fruits tasting bitter
Reached inside , opened wide
Leaving crumbs in the litter

Offer tokens of peace , in exchange for my beliefs
Discard veneration , passed down generations
Will my soul ever sleep
And our children we hold dear , you re-school with grand ideas
Past eradicated , new myths propagated
Hiding truth's that we fear

And you've caught your hand in the cookie jar
Delicious fruits tasting bitter
Reached inside , opened wide
Leaving crumbs in the litter

Will this peace give us hope , or your world make us choke
Complicit  governments , and broken covenants
I'm not sure we will cope , how will we ever cope

And you've caught your hand in the cookie jar
Delicious fruits tasting bitter
Reached inside , opened wide
Leaving crumbs in the litter
We're the one's scattered hither , a few crumbs in the litter

Really great song guys.  So full of musical beauty.  This is a great folk song, the real meaning of "folk" in folk songs.

Wow...brilliant song here!

The "table top" recording just adds to beauty of the song, as I think it works perfectly with just the strummed guitars and vocal, it just doesn't need anything else.

Outstanding stuff!

Beautiful. This is so well done! The way you've recorded the guitar is perfect. I can definitely hear Neil Diamond in some of the lines and intonations. He'd be proud of this one, and so should you! It's f*cking magnificent. Love the lyric too.

This seems to have been a bumper weekend for new material, everytime I check in there's a whole bunch of stuff I've missed or has just come on site, and this rates with the best of them.  Top notch.   Willie

Yeah, you do a pretty good job with the story-song even though this isn't really a story-song. But it works.

That's awesome creativity!

This tune is genious both lyrics and music. Jethro Tull mentioned and I can imagine Ian Andersson singing this.  I loved the perfect sound of guitars, great snging and fine melody! Stunning job, guys!

I noticed the Neil Diamond sound to your vox in some spots...
Then I read down some of the other comments and noticed the
Jethro Tull comparison, and I can definately picture Ian Anderson
performing this song.....
But, all of that aside, this is a fabulous song, and collab Guys!

Sounds great for a tabletop recording. Excellent song and powerful lyrics. The feeling behind the lyrics comes across very well in the performance, I enjoyed this a lot.

Cheers,

Nigel

Table-top recordings rule! I've had this on the PiePod, listen to it quite a bit.

Great job on this, bro!

Also glad for the bump! This totally off the hook awesome, great lyrics delivered so very well, impassioned and powerful performances! Definitely hear the Tull, and Diamond influences but I also kept thinking about Rush, I think it was your phrasing. Well done gents!

I've already commented but I'll comment again cuz it's been a year or two.

This sounds good, I like that mbr sound. I wonder if there is added reverb as an effect or if it is just the room you are in. It definitely sounds good (both the song and the recording.)
The message is pretty deep but it's slightly disguised by the object of the metaphor. Too much damage to be solved by handing out a candy bar.

WOW missed this

"Mieux vaut tard que jamais" as we say in french

Excellent lyrics and brilliant folk, I hear some Cat Stevens influence in the vocals
But anyway, Rob, you are unique and this voice is so pure

As said, we still listening
