Another of my old compositions re-worked on the BR (and mixed and mastered on the train this morning!).
All done in 4 tracks only, with the combined acoustic guitar and backing vocals recorded through the in-built mic. I used two guitar effect patches: 'Nashville' for the rhythm, and 'Smoothlead' for the lead licks and solo. Both were done on my Hofner verythin archtop.
I'm very happy with how this song translated on the BR. Just another reason why this little box of tricks continues to inspire and amaze...
and why aren't I hearing you on the radio?
Man you need to send this to someone who can help you out a bit
your almost as talented as ol rotten...almost.

The reason this forum works (especially the collaborations) is that we have all sorts of different talents floating around. I think I'm starting to know how to put a song together, but I'll never play guitar like some of the serious six-string talent I've heard on here. Neither can I do what ORH does - i.e. magically get inside someone elses song and interpret it into words and feelings that always seem to fit.
Here's to sharing and learning.... ! :)
Very nice, Tim. I'm beginning to see that you've got a recognizable style and sound, interesting and pleasant to listen to.
Good use of 4 tracks.... I wish there was (more) bass.

Ol "Smoothlead" to the rescue again-nice job Tim
Hofner arch top-thats a nice guitar-
I am considering a jazz box myself-Godin is making one now-under $1000

More than happy for somone to add some low end (from where the cymbals kick in...). I'm no bass player, so I'll only add my own when I don't think I'll ruin the song!
Prive... where are you?!

I'm very happy with the Hofner - it's really versatile for a £400 guitar and has a great range of tones (for MY level of playing at least!). There are some beautiful archtops out there at the moment though - most of which are out of my price range. I'll have a vintage Gretsch oneday though! And a Godin at that price sounds like something worth looking at...
Fantastic track.
I've had a BR for about a year and had good results with a Godin Solidac and a 335 Dot.
I do have trouble with my acoustics though. I love the sound you got here.
Cheers
Harry.
Neil Finn springs to mind.
Hey!!! here i am, sorry for these days i¡ve been off, lots of work here but i read the forum every day.
I'm working in some things here but tomorrow you could have news from me.
About it, i really like your music but i don't know how you feel about i'm adding basses to all your song posted, i think, if you like it the way you upload it who i am to change it, unless you post it at the collaboration section.
I repeat, i love your work and i respect you, i really like the songs the way you post it, i like it too with bass.
If you ask for some bass i'm happy to join but i don't want to invade your creative field.
Sorry about my english, maybe i don't express myself as i want.
Saludos, Marcelo.
hey with missed you marcello

Everything you've done so far on my songs has so good that it would be easy to let you play on ALL of them! :)
Hooper's right - this song needs a bass, so I'll add it to the collaboration thread and hope you find some time and inspiration to make it sound better.
Greeny this IS one of the best songs I have ever heard!
I have played this for 3 of my girl friends and they absolutely love
your style and voice and the emotion you impart!
Damn Man, why isn't this on the radio???
LG
Thanks lg for bumping this up........
It is a truly beautiful song...puts me in mind of "Snow Patrol"..
I know I can't say enough about how great this guys songs are. Its magic for sure. Go Greeny go, we will see you on the Brit awards before this is all over. I also like how he takes the time to listen and comment an every thing posted on here (in spite of writing 5 songs a week), what a fella. ;)
Thanks guys. I've done so much stuff in the last 6 months since I bought my BR, that this one seems like it was done a long time ago. But I'll never take this song for granted. There is some real emotion in these lyrics, for the very special lady in my life. When you really mean it, it shows. This song will always mean a great deal to me, and I rank it right up there with the ones I'm most proud of. Very happy to see it 'live' again... so thanks for the lift and kind words, lg :)

Listening is so important. It inspires and sparks little ideas you wouldn't ordinarily have. This place is incredible for that - It's a hotbed of eclectic talent right across the musical spectrum. And the kind of feedback you can get is just the icing on the cake. I really appreciate all the kind words you've given me, Bluesberry - you have no idea how motivating they've been... :)

I fully agree 'one of your top 5'!
Rock on Tim!

Great bump. Hadn't heard this one before.

Nice Bump - it's great to listen to these tunes that some of us more recent members missed !!! What a wonderful song Tim!!!
Cool lyrics: the more you give, the more you hurt, but not to love is worse...
What a beautiful vocal melody. "The more you give" part is especially gorgeous. I found myself rewinding to that part.
In an earlier post, I believe you said you had to get used to your voice. I just can't wrap my head around that as I would trade whatever chops I have on guitar to be able to sing well.
After the solo, the instrumentation drops out, which works extremely well.
One last thing: you always seem to pick very appropriate guitar tones.
Truly wonderful.
Blooby
Great Tune......inspiring stuff.
Had to give this another bump. I think this is my favorite by yours. Unbelievable vocals, great background vocals, fab instrumentation, great production.
The song structure is wonderful. There is some clever fiddling about with the vocal melody lines.
Just slays me every time it pops up in my Best of Songcrafters folder.
Blooby
Thanks for the Bump!!
I must have Missed this one!!
Great tune
JIM
Somehow missed this one back in the day, its like the song that Crowded House never wrote.
Great tone on the acoustic and some magical additions with the electric, not to mention the outstanding vocal...all in all pretty damn perfect!
Great Bump!
This is from way before I started reading the forum, so thanks for the bump, I'm glad to hear this wonderful song by one of the board's top talents. The melody in the "The more you give" section sends a shiver down my spine. Beautiful!

Wow! Thanks Blooby! This is the one I'm most proud of as a piece of songwriting. It's also the one that's a real b*stard as a benchmark to work against. Every time I do a good song, there's this little voice in the back of my head saying 'but it's no wounded souls...', lol. I'll keep trying though!
Prive and ORH really did some great work on this one too. It lifted it up to another level musically.
Cheers mate - means a lot!!!!
Just superb !! love you use of chords and the way you move them around in the song , move over Neil Finn is right !! pro job right the way through !
Dunny
Apparently, it's going to be my job to bump this every few months or so. I must say this is probably my favorite tune that has come out of this site, certainly the one I come back to the most.
I just thought any newbies deserved a crack at listening to this.
The chorus just kills me every time.
Cheers.
Blooby
Ahhhhhhhhhh, thats better, the world is right again. I needed a fix of this great song, thanks for your public service Blooby. Next month same time?
Probably right about this being a archetypal Greeny song, it has all the elements in the right places. A true thing of beauty. Keep bumping it back up Blooby, I don't think anybody would mind, in-fact, it is essential listening, at least once per month.
Can't believe that in my 13 months here that I somehow missed this, but I did!
Thanks for bumping it - I can't add much that hasn't been said already. Classic!
absolutely awesome.
great song greeny - great sense of melody and lyrics, really suits your voice, great stuff.
Trev
Okay, so when is the album coming out. This is a perfect slow down track. I can totally hear it on your album. This is most excellent. I'm jealous.
You said you mixed on the train... is this all Boss or did you use a pc to mix?
Yet another bump for my favorite tune I've heard on this site.
It just gets to me.
Have a wonderful holiday, folks.
Blooby
All your songs are a class of its own, Tim! I don't think this is your best song, but it definitely is another great one.
Regards,
Steffen
Wonderful song Tim. Very tender song / sung 8)
Two thumbs up!!
Can't help myself. I had to give this yet another bump in case anybody missed it.
Blooby
Thanks for bumping...
I thought i commented on this. This is just incredible in every way. Very catchy and sticks in your head.
It should be a hit racking in some greeny for Greeny. ;D

Upon reflection of this quote after a couple years it seems you don`t need anyone to put bass on your songs. Your bass playing is stellar these days!!!

Blooby
Me!! I missed it...
It's fab Timbo :)
And your comment about "listening is important" is SO true. I've settled into a routine of a) work on a recording for however long it takes, not much time to listen to other people's stuff during that, b) post the bugger, hoping for approbation/wotever, and c) take a couple of days rest to listen to other people's stuff with a guitar on my lap...
I'm doing c) at the moment, and it never fails to amaze me how much inspiration I get. I get different things from different people - last time it was one of Geir's made me remember a song I had up my sleeve and helped start off a), previous to that someone's opening statement in a post gave me a song. With yours I get two inspirational things mainly - a re-awakening of freedom in melodies and harmonies, and an "oh crumbs, he achieved that effect with one guitar!! Must try harder not to record the second (and third, and fourth) guitar part in future..." :D
Like stoman, I'm not convinced this is your
best one on here (so don't let it, or any other song, be a stumbling block for new stuff) but it is right up there...

Hi greeny
I really like this just how it is really simple, definitely less is more - really nice, I like the rawness of it.
great stuff

I got a hankering for this song again so I had to stop by. Love the arrangement here.
Still my fav.
Blooby
Yep, It's a killer.
Flash.
Bumps are a great idea!
This is a great song, love the 'smoothlead'. I agree with a comment of a bit like Neil Finn or if anyone has heard him Liam Finn.
Top tune Tim!
a wee bump fer oor tim
I am a huge, huge fan of this song. In fact, it is probably my favorite Tim Green song among a bunch that I listen to regularly. Sometimes I scroll through song folders on my pi-phone going "hmmm... should I listen to this or that Beatles again ... nah, nah, can't do that today ... hmmm, hmmm, ... Ah, what's that ... Oh, Tim Green ... yeah, yeah, that's the ticket"
I hope he is working on his next album -- or, if he is not actively working on it, I hope his subconscious is working on it. Because there is a mega-load of talent in there.
By the way, I wish I knew the chords to this song. I haven't learned how to decode chords by ear, so when wanting to try to play a song I usually rely on them being posted somewhere online.

Oh yeah!!! Simply wonderful!!!
Impressive drum work. Are then drums from the BAR too?
Radio ready for sure. This SHOULD be on the radio! Greeny, you're still one of the best writers here.
:)
A beautiful number fro The Random Dozen,
I am so glad I looked in that section, I can't believe I have not heard this before,
Well done Tim....
Alex
I first heard this song a maybe 5 or more years ago, or maybe 7(?), on this site. It was one of the ones I quickly recognized as awesome and eventually led me to download ~20 of Tim Green's songs and put them in a folder on my phone to listen to. They were in rotation for a couple of years. I visit this site only sporadically now, but I saw this post and immediately recognized the name of the artist and song as one that I loved. Just listened again, and still love it. I can honestly say I like this song as much as some famous songs by people like the Beatles, etc. It is spine tingling! That said, it is retro, so sadly probably doesn't get the level of attention its quality deserves. Anyway, please keep making music!
Great bump I would have hated to miss this gem it is outstanding in all aspects. Another for the player
Bravo Tim
Tim
Brilliant yes really
On this day bump.......just a thing of beauty...listen again
A gem.
Yes, this is a real gem! Had an early morning and hearing this helped me to get the cobwebs out of my eyes. Then i followed this by going to Greenys Bandcamp site and streaming songs like Deadbeat Moon while driving the car and seeing the first rays of sun hitting the ground. Songs like these make life better!
oh yes...this is a great song...been listening to it for months now...fantastic....Greeny is a god
