Thought it was time for a love song. I recorded this last night after seeing all the love songs that were being posted,( it's an unofficial Lovefest lol) heavily under the influence ;D I've waited til I sobered up and gave it another listen before I posted it. The song still sounds drunk, but what the hell ;D. This is as sickly as it gets lol.
Better version & lyrics are down on reply #21
The Vocals were a little funny but to be honest, the song has a great over all grove to it.
The guitar was sweet. What else can i say, i liked it.
Now I know how to make song...Bottoms up!!! 8)
Probably won't work for me though.
Well done...

Ah, there are love songs all over the forum! ;D This is nice rugged love here!
Killer tune, bro!
Mark
Excellent guitar work, Sir. I love it. The vocals do sound drunk or at least off kilter. But hey, a good track nonetheless.
F__kin' Hell! yeah dude, this has a drunken signature
written all through it! Crude and Raw. Hey that is the
way good rock should be!
YOU dive me F__kin'Nutz Baby, yeah, you drive me
MORE than just wild, you drive me NUTZ!
Rock'n
LG
Well written and performed ROCK tune were you sober or not! I loved that solid guitar sound!!
Kari
Thanks everybody for being so kind. Yeah, in the cold light of day the vox are really dubious. I was dreading reading any comments when I got in this morning, but you have very politely pointed out what I thought too. First chance I get (when the neighbours go out ;D), I'll redo the vox. Thanks again for the constructive comments.

LOL. That's what I noticed on Sunday night. Thought I'd join the party ;D Will redo vox 1st chance I get this week. Cheers launched
I've a tear in me eye BM, and i thought you were a hard assed whiskey drinkin rocker. There is a soppy under belly on show here :-)
Tom
Blimey, that's a rawkin' love song. Certainly can hear a few beers and JDs creeping through there, but it drips attitude. Sounds pretty good for someone under the influence, don't clean it up too much if you do redo the vox. Great rock guitar sounds and a nice chord seqeunce in there at the end of the chorus lines (...by my side). Full on power!
Cheers,
Nigel
Fantastic stuff. Personally I think the vocals are brilliant, but then again I am a BIG Tom Waits fan...

You know what, its the off kilter swagger here that makes this work so well. If you re-do this it will be too much on the beat, and it is this loose sense of beat that works so well. This is a love song for that girl you just met at the bar, and 15 beer later you are trying to coax her home, thats what I hear, then that damn solo comes in, fantastic and loose. I really like it just the way it is. It reminds me kinda of Neil Young vibe like from his mid 70's period when he was so open and loose and heavy electric guitar (Tonights the Night - Zuma period). This is raw and real.
Bluesy is right! Though the vox are not what I would call "perfect", this really works! Love the guitar solo too! Frickin great groove and feels to this. I don't know that anyone could say redoing the vox would make this better. It's pretty right on as it stands. You can find love while being drunk too! :P
Booze is a good songwriting tool! ;D
Great classic vibe with a heavy edge!
Damn dude - you sound like Alice Cooper on this one.
Good job!
Unique! I can hear all of those pretty major 7 chords in there like a love song would have, but to a heavy rock beat. I guess this gives a new definition to the term "Power Ballad". For as great as it sounds in this style, I'm still curious as to how it would sound in the traditional "ballad" style. I like your "innovative-ness". Interesting what alcohol use brings into some peoples minds-especially artists! ;)
:) JB
Thanks everybody for the comments. Lots of interesting stuff you've mentioned. Yeah JohnBee, glad the maj7 chords cut through ok. I agree, it would be interesting to hear a more 'traditional' love song arrangement. However I was 'method acting' ( In other words Drunk ;D ) and it was begging to be played like a loser in love on his way down lol. The vox could definately be redone, but as so many of you have pointed out, it probably wouldn't sound authentic drunk. I'm going to leave it for now. I trust people's opinions on this one. Thanks again everyone for the absolutely fantastic constructive comments, and for listening.
BM
Yes there is love all over the place on songcrafters at the moment - but there is definitely some tougher than usual love going on in this song - you nailed the "played like a loser in love on the way down" vibe on this one. Oozes late night authenticity!
I love how raw and 'real' this is, but there's still a great melody and musicality at it's core. The solo is superb too. I wouldn't change the vocal - it just adds to the overall feel. Great work again.
Dead cool BM. I wouldn't change the vocal either - but if you do decide to clean it up, make sure you keep the original somewhere. It will be the version you want to listen to when you've had a couple of beers next time.
Paul
I agree with the Alice Cooper reference for sure ~ got the grungy sleazy drunken vocal to fit his singing style and the attitude to boot!! I dig the guitars and percussion too : Cool fun stuff !
The "Method Acting" is very effective. I say keep it that way.
;) JB
LOL JB. I method acted it again. Happier with this version. Thanks for Ur input. Sincerely appreciated.
You Drive Me More Than Wild
Well I need you to phone,
And I'm all here alone,
And the moon is shining down on me,
I'm so blue I'll drown in misery,
Chorus-
And I want to have you by my side,
Girl you know you drive me more than wild,
If you leave me then I'll die,
Just to think it makes me cry,
And the heavens are shining here tonight,
And my heart is hiding from their light,
Chorus
Lead
Can't believe how it hurts,
And it only gets worse,
Until you come and ease the pain,
Oh the tears are falling like rain,
Chorus
End
I like the new version better - but there again I'm sober. The ouzo bottles empty again.
This is a lot more listenable in all conditions. But save the other for that time....
Sounds a bit tighter than the first, but there's still something in the first I like better. I think you've captured more "raw emotion" in the first.
;) JB
`Wow, what a flippin trip,,, listening to your song Black Mary and then listening to Sai's tribute cover of your song . ! . ! . ! . `Damn, what a fine song man!
Cheers Satchwood. Yep Sai did it justice. Love his version. Sounds sincere & more lovin' than mine. & his vox are always beautiful. Mutual respect
this is fantastic Black Mary. I really dig the vocals. That smothering bass really fits this piece well. The rhythm has just the right amount of punch. Excellent song.
I`ve been away...Damn this is wild Black Mary. Like those deep cranking vocals of yours. Great Rhythm guitar on this track too. I saw Sai did this but had to listen to the original first.
Great job Man! ;D
Cheers Satchwood. Glad U like it ;D Plenty more where this came from
Hehe. Thanks Gnasty. Yeah it's been a great weekend. Glad U liked both versions. Sai did brilliant. I can't stop listening to his
Very cool! I like both versions...the first just a little more. Raw and wasted.
Quote from: henwrench on June 02, 2010, 07:12:53 AMFantastic stuff. Personally I think the vocals are brilliant..
Same Here!
I think this works perfectly!!!
Just heard the second..
I Like the First better... The Vibe is more Kick ass!
Its no contest in my opinion, the first is my favorite. It has a real swagger and swing that just is so compelling, it feels like it may fall right off the damn stage, thats the raw deal. The second one is too much on the beat and it takes something away from the performance. That first on is so damn cool to listen to.
I really like the "drunken" quality of the tune. I see you leaning against a mic stand with a bottle of Jack in your hand. Oddly, there is a dog humping the leg of one of your spectators in my vision as well, but that's probably not relevant.
Great lead tone. What's the source?

LMFAO. I can see it too ;D It's the singer's dog. Thank Blloby. The lead is played on my Jackson Rhoads, rhythm pickup recorded on the BR600 - COSM setting 16 - Hi Gain

The Smoker you Drink the player you Get !!! (joe walsh eagles) balls out to the world loved it BM !!! First version every time !!!!

Wow, version one for me. I work in a hospital theatre where silence is golden and I must have nudged the volume knob on my speakers. Well we now have two patients in intensive care and a consultant receiving phychiatric help. Stella Willie

LMFAO Ooops. Send them my condolences. Hope it wasn't during a circumcision which ended up having to be an emergency sex change. Or a rectal biopsy that bit off more than it could chew and ended up with a colostomy bag fitted. Classic stuff Willy ;D
Just listened to Sai's tribute version and had to remind myself of the original. Splendid ans worthy of a bump in my opinion.
