hi guys,
following my elaborate collaboration with hoop, i thought ok oldrottenhead lets get slapdash ,
its bin a while but why dont you try and make some music of your own again, cos you know of late ive bin jumping onto other peoples stuff and adding lyrics and vox.
the main reason being i have limited musical abilities, but i think i'm not bad at pulling lyrics out of the hat, re my singing when i keep it in pitch its nearly ok.
i'd also been reading posts about cheap bass guitars and boss effect pedals that can make your guitar sound like a bass, i put a reply there in that i record the bass part on guitar transfer it to cubase and use pitchshift to drop it an octave and voila u have a bass.
well my intention tonight was to do just that, i put the mbr on with a rnb drum loop and picked out a simple bass riff with the intention of cubase pitchshift etc u get the drift. but i never got round two that, then i played at the most, two chords, (well not even chords 1 string held dow and strumming then lifting finger off) add nauseum.
i thought sounds no bad, then added a vox,(excuse the dishwasher i think it can be heard at times.
so anyway this is a kwik sketch is very sparse, (inspired by steves bare naked brain damage)
it is a drumloop, when i get round to it i will build a new drum track to go with it, top string of guitar as bass, and 2 chords strummed, twice but at different pitches, then a vocal track. so there is tons of room for anyone wanting to put stuff on top of it. ok here is the first draft for lyric.and then the song.
jings i can go one eh?
lyrics:
Dont Think
i've done it all, i thought i knew the score
i thought i'd seen it all before
i should know better, well i do know now
you'll never know how things turn out
i dont think you'll ever know
coz you don't want to
i dont think you'll ever know
coz you don't have to
i dont think you'll ever know
coz you don't need to
you don't think
you don't think
i had to learn to eat that humble pie
or i could never look you in the eye
i should know better, well i do know now
you'll never know how things turn out
i dont think you'll ever know
coz you don't want to
i dont think you'll ever know
coz you don't have to
i dont think you'll ever know
coz you don't need to
you don't think
you don't think
you don't think
you don't think
took a run at fattening up the bass and a rough spacey slide-
hope ya like it
yah on second listen i think i can do better-i'll try again tomorrow
Should be in bed for my second nightshift >:( but could not resist ... lol! All my gear is in the bedroom so out of bounds (She is asleep) so added a simple synth part using Cubase and Audition.
Hi. I like a lot of your posts. A good job again. I feel a taste of The Cure here.
Kind regards,
Beto
not sure about the slide guitar ron.
steve synth bit sits nice.
ya- i agree nix the slide-i may try something else- i'm in the grueling part of my schedule -but i'll try to get to it soon-
w/ Bass ;D
hi guys this is getting interesting, if possible could you post your additions as a track ie, steveg just post the synth bit etc so i can mess and mix. guitarron, i think we need another slide, uno how fussy i am from past experience so dont take offence,
signed
yon enfant terriblee
It is shaping up innit, bass fits great and tho Ron's part sounded fine to me I am sure he can improve as he says. Can tart that synth part up if you want, knocked it up at 7.00am after a 12 hr night shift. Personally think it works as is tho.

agree on all. ron is well aware im a fussy basturt lol. (i love you ron) but i like all the bits i just want the individual parts to mess about with, i might even remove all my parts ans do something with that.
great fun tho eh? eh? eh?eh?
Here's the synth part.
This is the bass I had added...
No offense taken Jimmy-
i was just throwing that out there to see if it sticks
i like indiana's bass better than my old rick-(listen careful there is actually i bass part on my post)
i posted a dirty rthym guitar last night-then pulled it off the forum cause I didnt like it-
I'll take another pass at it-thought about layering slides in it.
this time i'll use a slide instead of a 9volt battery i had on hand-lol
cant get to it tonight-this weekend for sure
while i'm at it-how we replace Jim's signature jangly guitar with a 12 string?
nother thing is these last few days are the most i've used the MBR in months
been doin most everything on my br600 and sonar-when i do anything
still love that little beast-i'm gonna try to resist working outside the mbr on this project

right back at ya
i like having the tracks separated too-thats when the temptation to use that 600 (with the sliders) gets me
ORH, how's the remix coming? I sent a copy to my son and daughter in law over the weekend. She didn't know who it was and asked if it was "Interpol". I'm not familiar with them but he said it's a group they listen to often.
rod
cool, interpol are a band out of new york like a cross between joy division and the strokes
haven't forgot you guys-it's been a hectic week-retracks will be posted soon
still awaiting ron but in the meantime here is a rough mix with steveg's synth and indiana's bass. when i transferred all the parts to my mbr. indianas bass went out of sync, so i mixed steves bit on mbr and added indiana's bass part on cubase. oh aye i redid the drums, recording them on the fly whilst bouncing.
sorry for holding up the production
what i did was make a rough sub mix of the synth bass and vox/drum
so i could use that to track a rthym guitar and slide tracks
so what i'm posting is not a final mix -it's a rough mix so that you guys can see if you you like the direction i took it
let me know what ya think-i do have time to work on it now if needed
i will send the track files if ya like
again apologies for the delay-feels good to be making music again either way
thats more like it ron, send me the traxs .
ron sent me three trax, i dirty rythm guitar track and 2 dirty slide guitar tracks, dropped them into cubase for a quick mix, if all participants are in agreement i will post this at the nevermet site, unless you want to be honourary members of the bunkbeds and i'll post it there.
here it is.
That came together right smart. Post away ;D
There's a bit of a timing issue there, check out the intro, sounds out of sync to me. All came together well tho, post wherever you want mate.
I should have something else for you to play with soon ;D
i think i'll leave it as is, re sync issue as you say all comes out ok in the end,
song is here

i like the general mix, but i feel the drums repeats it's fill too much-or needs to be changed up-i like it either way tho-gonna plug my mbr in the car radio and rock
thanks for waiting for me-had a lot going on this week-a breakup, a get back together,
car troubles(daughters ride), prompting me to buy a new car(well i had some fun lol) all while retiling the bathroom
NIce job on the keys steve and the bass part was good too
keep hitting the play button at soundclick
peace
drums wgere done on the fly just changing up and down the patterns as song played not ideal but im buggered if i can programme mbrs drums lol.

i find it hard to work within the limitations the mbr patterns/arrangment works presents-
no knock tho-they are handy-and i think roland intended them that way

Very nice work. There's an edgy hint of menace in here that I really like... :)

Way Beyond Your Dreams? ::)
Anyway, congrats! ;)
i sent way beyond your dreams too but they chose that one, no accounting for taste.
my snorkel got full off mucus pulling this pearl for a bump
blame steveg
OTD bump
Wow, what a great song. Totally addictive. Right up my alleyway. What became of the 6music thing?
One of the intermediate mixes came up from this on the OTD jukebox, I think I've heard most recent now.
Great. I can swim in this for a bit. Clean,,atmospheric,,,nice :]
Bump for the fest. I haven't had a chance to listen to all the versions yet, but the first one is classic orh to my ears.
Lol look at all individual takes posted on one thread. I forgot I worked on this. This is a good one for the recycle fest
Came over to hear this after finding the version by Mike_S (https://songcrafters.org/forum/index.php?topic=31691.0). It's really interesting how this evolved into a collaboration – back in 2008. Is this possibly the song that catalyzed your new life as habitual collaborator? I mean, is this the moment in history, where if someone in a time machine were to go back and prevent it from happening, the entire future of microrecorders.org would be completely different?
