The unplugged festival officially ends today. It was a great success. Thanks to all who participated. And special thanks to Geir and Saijinn who each did enough songs for an unplugged album of their own! Several others weren't far behind in the number of songs they posted. You people are amazing! I find it hard enough just to get one song done. If anyone's still working on an unplugged song for the festival, don't worry. You can still post it after the festival ends and I'll include it in the jukebox when it returns (it's temporarily offline).
So now it's time to vote on the March festival. I've added a few more choices that have been mentioned since posting last month's poll. This poll is set to run for two days. So, the theme with the most votes at the closing of the poll will be the one we go with unless there's a tie. If you change your mind before the poll closes, you can change your vote.
The more votes, the better. So, please - everyone cast a vote.
what about a progfest
cover each others songs is a freaking awesome idea.
We will be celebrating each other!
great idea t,
This is a tough one - I haven't voted yet. I like these 3:
Progressive
Electronic
Originals
I can't quite decide which would be the most fun for me. I've been shying away from plugged in music lately, but doing some weird noises to the sound of an 808 is quite appealing.
And for prog, I have a 3 part monster I've been working on that would take me until the end of the fest to finish, but it would be worth it.
There are some originals that I wouldn't mind covering either.
So 'hep me out - what should we be doing?
Gringo fest!
A song about each quote!
Gringo rules!
Ahh, that's funny! Maybe a couple Flamenco numbers! ;D
we love you gringo!
is gringo a genre what is a genre is it french or latin only the r and g are the same is it.
Gringus "Rio" Flamencus
Jim, I think it's "Muppets: Old men heckling in the balcony" genre!
I am encouraged that by even having a vote for a festival, that implies that we will have a site in which to have our festival. For this reason I vote for covering each others original songs, in celebration of this site, and the hope I have that it continues. It would be real fun to spend time going over all the songs posted on here to find a few gems that I could cover. And that would also celebrate all that I love about this site. I vote to cover each others original songs. I would love to do a cover of a Gringo song. Gringo, post up a song brother so I can do up a cover of it.

That made my decision - Cover member's songs. Cool.
My head is telling me to go synth / electro, but my heart is thinking that covering each other's songs will be a fun, rewarding and bonding experience.
Geir has a bit of a head start on this fest if it gets chosen, lol.
Bloody Hell, I missed this...
am I too late? Am I?
Voting has closed (hope you had time to vote, Mike) and the theme for this month is ...
Cover each other's original songs
That's a mouthful. Suggestions for a clever,
shorter name for the festival anyone?
The rules for this one are pretty simple. Just choose any
original song posted here and do a cover of it. Original means that the song was written entirely by one or more Songcrafters members. Cover means that you record your own version of that song. I expect that everyone will want to offer their own unique interpretation of the original, and that's great. But, if anyone prefers to do a near-exact copy of the original, that's fine too. Any interpretation you like is fine. Change the tempo, genre, instruments, effects, add a verse or bridge, do it as an instrumental, speak the words instead of singing, etc. And, of course, collaborations are acceptable too.
Last month, I suggested that anyone wanting to cover another member's original song should ask permission first. Do you think we need to do that? On the one hand, I expect that anyone here would be thrilled to have their song covered and asking first kind of ruins the surprise. On the other hand, it's possible that one or two people might not want others messing with their song and will be upset if a cover of their song is posted without permission. What do you think?
I have a hunch that this will be our best festival yet.
Gentlemen, start your recorders.
(Ladies too!)
from personal experience i have had prives band mulligan cover one of my songs and geir cover a number of songs i was involved in and i must say it is one of the biggest thrills ive had (musically speaking)
The one reason I thought that you may want to contact the member(s) whose song it is, is to ask them for the lyrics and (possibly, for a non-muso like me) the chords etc.
Might try Autumn song!
oh ... I'm late to the party :-\ missed the voting ...
well I can live with the result ....
And I think noone will have a problem with others covering their songs either, but I do think it's a good thing to ask first. As for covering my songs : Hereby granted !!
I'll go digging in the archives now .... so much good music to choose from !!! ...
BTW what was the name of the festival? (good to know what to put in the Subject-field of the post)

After you then Jim, I'll let you figure out the complex nature of that one!

That gives me an idea, Geir. How about if anyone who's okay with having their original songs covered puts "Okay to Cover" somewhere in their profile? Then we only need to ask permission of members who did not put "Okay to Cover" in their profile, either because they forgot to or they actually don't want their songs covered.
Possible fields in the profile that could be used are "Personal Text", "Custom Title", and "Signature". The first two will appear above or below your avatar at the left of each message. Signature, of course, appears below each message.

I was hoping some members would make suggestions. One that just occurred to me is "Tribute Fest", meaning we're paying tribute to our fellow members. What do you think?

Sounds perfect to me.
Once we decide on a name for the festival, I might make a small graphic that everyone can put in their signature if they want to grant permission to cover their songs. That would be more visible and easy to find. I'll post instructions on how to link to the graphic for those who aren't sure.
Both are good ideas 64G ... I've put Okay to cover in my signature!
Let the games of March begin...
Here's a graphic I created for those who want to give permission to have their original songs covered for TributeFest.
To add this graphic to your signature, click Forum Profile Information (https://songcrafters.org/forum/index.php?action=profile;sa=forumProfile), scroll down to the signature text box, and add the following code:

Of course, this is entirely optional. If you prefer to have the plain text "Okay to Cover" in your signature instead of the graphic, that's fine too.
i think the unplagged festival has too be moore originl whats the good about yesterday move foooooorwars toa today
