* 12-string acoustic guitar recorded in stereo...one channel DI, one channel miced
* 6-string acoustic guitar mic only
* Voices, multi-tracked
Guitars and voices miced with the Micro-BR on-board mic, tracked and mixed in Sonar, mastered on the Micro-BR.
Could be done live on stage with 6 singers if 2 of them were also playing acoustic guitars.
Thanks for listening and I hope you enjoy.
I Can See For Miles – written by Peter Townshend
Great stuff Hooper. The harmonies are heavenly. Great cover of a great song.
awe man where do you begin, the hairs on the back of my neck are sticking up. those harmonies are absolutely divine. never mind the piepod this is getting burned to cd.
picture the scene in waynes world when they listen to bohemian rhapsody that will be me in the car listening to this, hope i dont crash.
we are not worthy
Very nice harmonies!!! This is a great cover Hooper.Guitar work sounded great .Everything was mixed good to.
Well Done Bro!!!
Gary
Your guitar sounds so great here! Great on the harmonies too! So well done!
Damn Dude, this is freaking AWESOME!
LG
hooper - this is so unbelievably great!! :o
A super-clean recording, great acoustic sounds and my, those rich harmonies - just like they used to sing back in the day. And it rocks!
Thanks for making my day! :)
Wow!! You sound better than the freakin Who man - fantastic dude!!
Flippin pro-sounding ---> incredible!
YES YES YES !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Maybe my favorite Who tune, and this is as good as it gets !! This is brilliant, you've managed to capture both the beauty and the rawness of this great song !!!
Love it !!!!!!!!!!
Top song of the fest so far. The challenge has been laid down. Who will attempt to top this one. I don't think it is possible.
i second that bb.
just back from the school run with this on repeat with the dial at eleven, even the kids where getting into it.
when its any of mine i get told to put the radio on.
Hooper, this is just amazing! The 12-string is perfect for this, and the harmonies... what can I say that hasn't been said. Stupendous! (I don't think that's been said). Very polished and professional (and well sung). Nice bit of delay, EQ'd and mixed beautifully. Great work!
Frank
Top notch!!, You got it going on Hooper!! One of my fav's
Hooper, I am still amazed at the quality of recording here!! And of course, like already posted, fabulous guitars and sensation vocals!!
How the heck do you get such a clean recording using the on-board mic?
I can't detect any mic noise or distortion at all - how the heck do you do that?
Is your MBR mic that clean recording or are you doing some sort of clean-up or noise reduction filtering, or what?
I mean I can't even hear you pushing the record button............I could sure use a lesson here or some advice....incredible!
This sounds as if was recorded in a full studio! Unbelievably good production and the performance is just as good, those harmonies are just amazing!
Wow what a fantastic recording...so true to the original!
I always wondered why they went with miles in the UK...I guess "I can see for kilometres and kilometres" just didn't sound right!
This sounds really good! So well presented!!! One my favourites from The Who...
-Kari
I'm a great believer in only doing original material and I was getting ready to hear a poor rehashing of a Who classic...and I don't give compliments lightly...But....this is fantastic on all levels, musicianship, vocals, production. I feel I'm in the little league compared to this major league performance. Excellent.
Oh man Hoop! you have excelled yourself here!
the harmonies are superb and the guitars are brilliantly recorded and played.
How do you get it this good?...... Oh yes I know, pure raw unadulterated talent.
It's a fantastic version. If the Who (who?) had produced this at this quality they would have been chuffed.
Pete Townshend has written some great songs. You have covered one of them brilliantly.
I'm in awe.
Thanks a lot for the kind comments, everybody!
Really makes my day. :)
Satchwood- When using the on-board mic I only use patches with the Vocal Multi algorithm because that way you have access to the Noise Supressor. I like to use ForNylon for voices and Ag LoCut for acoustic guitar as starting points and turn the Noise Supressor ON. First crank up the Input Sensitivity as far as you can without the [over] light blinking on. Then you can adjust the Noise Supressor's Threshold setting up a bit more if needed to quiet the noise.
Gritter- Why did this UK band sing about miles instead of kilometers? Heh, I never thought about it but that's a very good question! :D
Hooper, holy shyte, man! :o :o :o
Thanks to Joe (cuthbert) posting this on Facebook, or I never would have known the beauty. Now I must listen to this 1000 times in a row and hope -- just HOPE -- that one day I might be this good myself. Those vocals are better (yes, I said it) than Roger Daltrey ever sounded, with harmonies sublime. The rich, layered guitars are utterly insane.
Sorry to everyone that I haven't been around, but The Stan Laurels (my "band") are finally forming into an actual live band so we can start playing shows, and this, along with work and family, is taking all of my time. It's songs like this that make me really miss the Forum.
I'm glad I did not miss this one. Hooper, you are an amazing musician. Joe, thanks for posting.
Wow i hate to echo everyone else but this is a great performance and recording all together. I love this tune. Great work!!!
Great performance and excellent producing. Loved the guitars, harmonies, every bit of it.
Sheer genius. Even by your usually (or should that be UNUSALLY?!) high standards, this one is right at the top of the tree. Great guitar tone, immaculate production, and kick-ass harmonies. You couldn't have done this any better. Outstanding stuff.
Truly amazing cover , top end production to die for , and one very talented guy ( nearly forgot to mention the Who song ,Brilliant ) Well done Ken , you never let us down
Rob
Oh yeah!! :D
I don't have a whole lot else to say except that 12 string and the harmonies were awesome. It's the Who song you play over and over again. I'll be doing it with your version too!
Sweeeeet!!!!
Mark
Very good recording and excellent sounding 12 string. Your harmonies fit great on this superb version. Awesome stuff!
The standard of this is awesome. You have set the bar so high with regard to everything in this. We all now have another level to climb. Fantastic. :)
Just quality work to the highest order.
this has been on repeat in my car cd player all week, picture the scene a scotsman and his two daughters on the school run in a traffic jam, every person in every other car have desperate frustrated looks but in my old banger we are all headbanging and singing like the scene from waynes world. we do get some odd looks but do we care.
thanks hoop for making the school run less stressfull.
Just fantastic.
excellent version!!! really top notch! best cover i've ever heard of this one ....cheers!
FMGWABP
I dont know how I missed this.......
Dont know the song.... But is is Freaking Awesome!
Perfection as usual Hoop.... And then some...
I miss my 12 string now....
AMAZING vocals. That must have taken you a while to get it so polished. Worth the effort!!
Great cover. singing is superb and well done cover of a famous classic . my favorite
of the who songs. besides pinball wizzard and behind blue eyes. thanks for the

Utterly brilliant piece of work.

blimey! Hooper I am speechless! Just wonderful!!! Excellent vocals, I have no idea how you got those harmonies to work like that! And loved the 12 strings
andy
Couldn't be better Hooper! Nice, nice , nice!
Farrell
Two years on and I still love it. Top notch, hooper!
Had to give this another spin. Really wonderful all the way around. You get such a nice snappy sound to your acoustic here. Works really well here.
Pretty amazing tune, considering how early it was in Pete's career. Inspiring me to listen to some Who tonight. Maybe I'll watch Quadrophenia on Hulu.
Blooby
as already said.... I am not worthy
just wow. excellent!
I love this song! you made it amazing good. It is not easy to cover the crazy one Townshend - he had great visions , and the feeling of the greatness in music - and we find it here too (non so se mi sono spiegato, disse il paracadute)!
you have nailed that tune... wow
on this day bump
OTD Bump, To celebrate your 1000th post,

Funnily enough I was just listening to the original yesterday. This is a damn fine cover!!
Great bump! Classic hooper cover. 8)
I was looking at my "All Unread Topics" list and was about to click "MARK ALL MESSAGES AS READ." Then this caught my eye.
By my count, this has been bumped from the depths seven times since it was first posted in 2010 – and it's my first time hearing it!
So good! From the Unplugged fest, so I was expecting a LITR thing. I was not expecting the harmonies. Amazing job.
