Title: "Frankie Machine" - first posting
Post by: mike on September 10, 2009, 11:50:04 AM
I wrote this a while back.  I don't have any musician amigos so I thought I'd stick it on here for an informed review.  Named it "Frankie Machine" after a character in the Nelson Algren book "The Man With The Golden Arm"
Cheers for listening.

Mike Welcome to the forum, and excellent first post. This is straight ear candy. It grabbed my attention from the beginning. It is packed full of quality. The production is fantastic. Damn, I'm glad I had the opportunity to listen to this.

Great tune.  You handled the effect really well too.  If that's the guitar effect I'm thinking of (is it from the BR??? Can't remember the name) I've had it run away on me causing a mess a few times ;D
Solid playing

Welcome to the forum, Mike.  But you've already broken protocol.

Your first post is supposed to be something like, "How do I turn this thing on?"

This is really sweet piece of music and a really good recording.  A great feel.  Going to listen to it again right now.

I tend to erase any preliminary handling noise that gets into my tracks, so you don't get any sounds like you hear in the right channel just before the guitar comes in.

You now have a bunch of musician amigos.

Wow  - Superb, just superb!! Welcome to the forum!! I like the feel to this - Pure ear candy!!

Well produced and all the sounds are perfectly panned and isolated with plenty of headroom. Masterful playing, too.

Way to go in with a bang!!

Wow, WHAT A FIRST POST.  Incredibly good stuff.  Before the soloing comes in, it has a sort of early 90s indie pop feel.  Kind of Smiths-like.  I like the chorus-y guitars and bass.  Then the soloing really changes the feel of the song to more complicated alt-rock.  Then the middle part blows me away, with that delay effect.  Great work, Mike! :) :D ;D
