Hi, I'm new here. This is my first post.
Recently I purchased a brand new Boss Micro BR at store and it worked fine with 128Mb SD card supplied by Boss.
So I bought 2 SD cards "Transcend" 1Gb model TS1GSDC (Boss listed compatible) and both worked very bad in my Micro BR with sucessive "Card Write Error" and sometimes freezing when storing the song.
One of them, also after the error refusing to Initialize and reporting the same "Card Write error"
So I puted it in a photo digital camera and made a low level formatation and, for my surprise, it return back to work in the Micro BR, but ever reporting the same errors.
So, I made the firmware update (from v1.3 to v1.4) and like a kind of magic, all errors stoped.
After the firmware update I made a dozen of records, bounce, masterizing, WAV and MP3 converting and none error was reported.
So, finally, I am satisfied with the Micro BR.
By this way I conclude that the firmware v1.4 was really made to fix the issues with this brand (Transcend) and maybe some others less famous SD Cards.
My intention with this post it is only to confirm that information to people of the forum.

Welcome to the forum, torben, and thanks for giving such a clear and detailed report of your update results. I think you're the first here to actually try the update. Did you download it from the German Roland site or did you find it somewhere else? Did you find instructions in your native language or did you use the German instructions (or my translation of them (https://songcrafters.org/forum/micro-br/firmware-update-(version-1-04)-for-micro-br/msg43329/#msg43329))?

I really downloaded the firmware v1.4 from German Roland site and I used Babel Fish tranlator for the instructions.
A curious thing is that in the User Manual Boss says that the formatation (Initialize) can take even 10 minutes, and with the firmware v1.3 the initialize time of the Transcend card was less than 2 minutes. So I thought to my self. There is anything wrong in that.
I did'nt try yet to format the SD card with the new firmware v1.4, because, how I said before, I formated it in a digital camera Canon A610 and it is working fine!!
