This is kind of a dark one, so beware :o Guess I should ease back from the Slim Shady albums. My stepping out of the box tune...
Mark
P.S. - Forgot to say this was all done on the MBR (Of course!!!)
wow lots going on in this, started off like rage against the machine or nine inch nails or something then, just goes off into the unknown or was that the slim shady reference , i love this guitars and everything all spaced out nicely with a full wide sound, fmgwabp as i say.
F*cking Hell this is Good!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Stunning Awesome Vox!!!!!
This Box suits you Bro!!!!!!!
Freaking Great Music !!!!!!!!!!
I will be comming back to this One!
AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
JUST AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
MORE THAN AWESOME!!!!!
Peace
T(Osckilo)
Thanks Jim and Tharek!! Love the shouts from my MBR brothers!!
Mark
Their's some really cool shit going on here.
That bass just rattles you brain.
Love that crazy middle section, great job :D
Crazy is right, wild, grooving, I can see this one as great driving music, I will have to try that tomorrow. Great driving bass there.
Lord! Not sure how to describe all this! Lot going on here Mark. I love the guitar tones and the rhythm that stays relatively intact through the song. Your vox are great and the harmonies are freakin' spooky! Killer bass. Old deafdog here can't make out all the lyrics as usual. Maybe you could post 'em. When the drums go crazy there, i didn't know what to think! Then you bring it back and finish out nice. This is really out of the box, a Stonehenge on the Solstice type song! Great job...BIG sound!
Mark i'm seriously impressed with this mate , it exudes quality in every direction , man you are good , i really mean that , it scares me to think how much thought you've put into producing this and getting such a proffesional sound .
Absolutely brilliant
Facemask93
Cool out of the box launched!!! very impressive. I think you created yourself a new box. How do you guys come up with such great productions? You definitely got something going on with those drums, They are talking.
P.J.
Well, I'm surprised and flattered by the wonderful comments!! The song could have been better because I hit bounce overload and backed off a little, but I like it.
Thanks, Knniggits!!
BB, any comment from you is worth bronzing - thanks a lot, bro!!
Charlie - I know this is not kick butt bluesy rock that you do - thanks for listening and commenting!! Your stuff blows me away and I'm flattered that you would take time to listen to one of my attempts. I'll post the lyrics for ya. A song is a song, though, huh??...
Rob - I did put a tiny bit of work in this :D. The most tracks and bouncing I've ever done. I would still trade it all for a small hint of your vocal and guitar talent.
Thanks Wiley!! - Love your stuff, too!!
Peace,
Mark
OK, Charlie - Here's the lyrics. But remember, It's just a song... :D
I'm in my head today
It speaks to me
Soft gentle whispering
in the breeze
And you know that stone
got carried to the sea
Worn down to a pebble
Fought a battle
With the riverbed
I'm alright
I'm alright
I'm alright
I'm alright
I don't know why you're always after me
The jury's out
no doubt you're an asshole

Just like Elvis said "I'm losin' my mind"
Just like Elvis said "I'm losin' my mind"
Its....In....My.....Head
Can't get it out of my head
Its....In....My.....Head
Can't get it out of my head
'Cuz I know what you said to me
And I know what you said to me
Its....In....My.....Head
Can't get it out of my head
I wrote a note to myself
on a skeleton key
Bought a stamp and an envelope
And mailed it to me
And you know that craziness
is killing time
By looking up at your window
From the front lawn
I'm alright
I'm alright
I'm alright
I'm alright
Oh, man, first time I ever posted lyrics...
A Window into your Soul Bro.....
These Lyrics are as deep as they get......
You have mixed sublime skill (Vox and Guitar) with killer beats to forget yourself with (Not abundant on the MBR......)!
Not easy at all!
But you did it!
That's some bar your set for yourself bro!
Can't wait for your next one!
Peace Mark!
T(Osckilo)
I am even more impressed now Mark after reading the lyrics. This is damn fine song writing, and I mean damn fine. You have a very cool style going on.
Thanks, Guys!! You have made my millenium!!!
Made it yourself!
I dig it, cool energy to it. It reminds me a bit of Orgy, Then Beastie Boys, then I dunno what.
Oh yeah.
Now this is my bag bro.
There's too many good things to mention, but I'll try anyway.
Vocals, guitar, bass, overdubbed vocals, drums, speed change.
And all of this is in your head? You must resemble a real life Thunderbirds doll!
Superb.
Those lyrics are freakin' awesome. I love the way this song shifts and moves. That strange little folky / celtic bit in the middle is just great. There's a beautiful, driving menace about the guitars on this, and your vocals float above them very effectively. It's a great track, and it demands repeated listens...
Thanks for posting the lyrics Mark. Deep as i figured. I woudn't want to take a survey to see how many folks here could make them all out...i'd probably get depressed...but the way i figure it, if you are gonna sing, put them out front...on top of evrything else...where they can be heard. I know some folks are self conscious about that, and i know that "modern mixes" aren't real big on that...so maybe it's just the 'old sound man' in me or the fact that i grew up in the 50's and 60's where it was standard practice. The lyrics to your song are quite abstract. Mine always tend to be too literal. Neil Young seems to straddle that line well....but there are no rules in music and that's what's so cool. Incredible you did all this on an MBR. Bouncemaster! Bravo!
Thanks again for posting them. My eyes aren't as bad as my ears...although about 15 years ago i went to the eye DR. to get a checkup as reading was starting to be a bit blurry. Doctor turned to me and said..."Well, you have the eyes of an eagle...but you're an older eagle" ;)
LCD - I have a 20-something neighbour who would play this immaculate-slice of urban angst repeatedly. It's His Box. I will certainly be downloading at the first opportunity. It seems to encapsulate the brooding melancholy of modern life, and done with an intensity that begs response from the listener. I don't usually go big on the 'Copywrite' scene, but this is so insistent and in tune with strands of modern teenage-ism, that I would endeavour to 'Copywrite' the entirerity to yourself. If this is heard outside the Forum by those with a taste for this style, it will be Ripped immediately.
Very well done. :)
Finally able to respond to the comments - Thanks for listening to my strange song!
Quote from: Davo on July 19, 2009, 11:40:51 PMI dig it, cool energy to it. It reminds me a bit of Orgy, Then Beastie Boys, then I dunno what.
Thanks Davo - I was thinking "Beastie Boys??", and then I thought "Alibaba and the 40 thieves" :D
g1ngerjack - Thanks, my man!! I'll have to find out what a Thunderbirds doll is. :D
Greeny - Thanks for listening - I love how you describe my stuff. This one strayed off the beaten path for me, but that's where the tune wanted to go...

1. You are right, I can't help but be self conscious of my vocals. But honestly, Charlie, I have been trying to bring them up in the mix. My vocals get muddy and if I bring them up too much they start flapping the speakers something awful. Sometimes I get lucky and they punch through pretty good (I thought my chorus worked ok) - something I need to work on for the next project.
2. I'm glad you agree that there are no rules in music - And Tom Petty stated in court that "There are no guarantees in rock 'n roll!" That's what makes it all interesting! :)

Steve, you must be an editor or writer - one or the other :D I soaked it up, though!! Thanks for your positive take. As far as copywriting, boy, that's the other side of the world, ain't it?
Thanks again everybody - means a lot!
Mark
Hey Mark , i played this song to my mates at work and they freaked out man , right down to my youngest son who's (15) thinks it's the dogs back wheels , your a superstar mate , and rightly so-------------by the way ,is it true you were at Woodstock
Rob
Just when I had received the best comments, I get this one. Thanks a whole bunch!!
As far as Woodstock, I'm going to disappoint, sadly - I was only a couple months old during the original. The gathering I went to was the '94 25th Anniversary Woodstock reunion - The first one of its kind. It was a pretty big deal at the time, though.. I saw a lot of bands, old and new and had a great time. Sorry to create a misunderstanding of that...
Oh, a little tidbit - I almost did make it as a baby(What were my parents thinking??). My folks had to turn around on the way down for some reason - Will have to get the whole story next time I see them.
Mark
Wow Mark - flippin cool song!!! So many cool levels here muscially and lyrically!! Wow!!
Bloody hell Mark, I nearly missed this one. Powerful and driving stuff indeed. I love the bass and guitar bottom end. It's added real weight and substance to an other fairly sparce sound scape and it just works wonderfully.
Great switch of feel and rhythm in the middle, it just whacks you in the side of the head.
Lyrics and vox are magic. I really think you've got a great track here. Fantastic.

Yes Mark!
This is more than Worthy!!!!!!
this is freakin awesome!
Quailty, Quailty,Quailty just terriffic, so impressed well done
Well Mark at least your folks turned around. LOL I was born in a car on the way to the hospital.!!! They never forget to tell me as we drive by the place. LOL I was older than a few months. But this is what makes classic music. Go for it and live. LOL
Mark, been a while getting to this one but I'm savouring it. I love dark, spooky stuff and this is right on the edge. Great guitar sounds, very clever song construction (love the change in the middle) and the vox build a great feeling of depth (perhaps could be a tad higher in the mix in places). I love the sudden end as well, very dramatic. Drum programming is great, the mix of guitars, bass and drums is spot on, and the lyrics, well wow, just fantastic. Just so much to love about this one. A really, really good posting.
Cheers,
Nigel
Just getting back from lurking (Long Day):
Thanks for the Seal T - I am proud!!!
(JAL) - Thanks for the shout - glad to have you aboard.
John - Could really use your Tele/Strat sound for a collab - :)
Wiley - Your comment reminds me of "Ramblin' Man" by Allman Brothers: "I was born in the back seat of a Greyhound bus, Rolling down highway 41...." 8)
Flash(Mike) - Thanks for the comments. I would really like to get back into the bass again, and love listening to your posts and the JK songs. You rock, bro!!
Nigel - Somehow when I make these songs I'm always thinking about what you would do. I'll lay a couple bass tracks down and thing "What would Nigel do...". Then do some vocals and think (What would Nigel (And Andrew) do??...". Anyway, I'm glad you like it. I actually filled one song program up and copied it to another. That way I could keep my patch and drum settings. I then erased all the v tracks exept for the final bounce - then I recorded another 12 tracks. Worked like a charm. Long live the BR Purist - You rock!!!
Thanks again everybody!
Mark

THis is great!! it reminds me of Killing Joke?
Some eastern sound going on in there?
Tom
Hoo boy, this is a winner! ;D
It's not my usual cup of tea, but I can dig it. I can feel it. The main riff is awesome, and I especially like the lead melody lines that come in later on. The singing is cool, and glad you posted the lyrics. It's very MARK! So original. There is NOTHING like this on the radio, and there should be.
WELL DONE!!! ;D
(JAL) - Looking forward to hearing your song!!
Tom - I love when I get the "You sound like.." I would never have known of Can, Flaming Lips and now Killing Joke (I'm Youtubing them right now...) You make great music, Tom - keep it up, sounds excellent!!
Bosko - Thanks for taking the time to listen, and I appreciate the comments!! It's really great having you on the forum, and I enjoy your music tremendously. You are our one of our superstars here 8)

Nigel managed to say much of what I was thinking. Very cool tones going on here. It's not something I would listen to normally, and yet I was drawn right in. I think that says a lot.
Nice.
By the way, I think you have my favorite avatar currently (not to swell your head or anything).
Blooby
This one is a grower. I can't keep away, it has power and majesty. It is kinda spooky but also uplifting at the same time. Try it cranked real loud folks, the production is out-of-sight. Put it in your car stereo and crank this bad boy, roll the windows down and feel the groove. This is one cool song.
Awwright - Thanks for helping me reduce the swelling, guys!! ;)
Bloob - Long live the Dodge A100 pickup...
missed this one somehow
this is a freakin great tune
awesome creativity and production
love the beat change-so sweet

And it sounds incredible in your car with the stereo cranked, really nice job on the production Mark. It could have so easily turned out all muddy and bottom heavy, no detail or clarity, well Mark it sounds really good. Super job on the recording engineer job here.
How did I miss this
Starting with killer lyrics and the very cool breaks and mixed to perfection with the driving rhythm......
Great Stuff !
This one is so good! Need a serious

Wow, this is something else! Its like 3 or 4 songs for the price of one! Some really cool guitar riffage in this and a great tone. The vocal sits in at the perfect level with the music, and it fits the brooding nature of the song perfectly.
Have to say also that this is about as good as production gets on the BR
Fantastic song Mark, and not sure how I missed this originally!
Haven't heard this in a while.
First, there was Robin Trower. Then there was Frank Marino. Next was Pat Travers. Now...Launched!
That flanger sounds killer. I shy away from chorus and flanger because I never can use them as well as you. Cool eastern sounding solo as well.
Completely unique arrangement. I admit, though, to not being able to decipher the lyrics in spots.
A great post. Takes me some place.
Blooby
Holy Shit man!
I nearly missed this. I'm glad I didn't. It's not within a million miles of what I usually listen to but I really enjoyed it. But the freaky thing is that your Beavis and Buttheads avatar are headbanging in time to the song. Very cool.

It works, the B&B guys are in perfect sync with the song, it adds to the experience of this song to watch the little guys go while listening, feaky cool in the extreme.
Loved it first time round, still love it now. Killer song, killer production.
Cheers,

This has got a great riff & the melody suits it perfectly. Love the flangin' on the guitar & the overdubs are spot on. At one point I was put in mind of Galvanize by the Chemical Bros. There's a lot of fantastic stuff goin on in this composition. Love it ;D
Great bump, so good to hear this quality work again it,s so good.
This had kind of a low key groove that I really got into. I liked it.. maybe because I like Dark so well, but probably because you did such a good job with it.
