Title: Squier Bass VI
Post by: BerryPatch on February 12, 2025, 02:55:27 PM
My buddy was at the pawn shop one day and found they had a Squier Bass VI (in the Get Back style sunburst finish no less!). When I heard that it was there I got the good ol' rush of GAS and went over there and bought it.

It's a very cool instrument with lots of different tonal options. It also takes pedals very well, chorus sounds lovely on this thing. Fun to use in jam situations since you can do bass lines or plug it into a guitar amp and get some nice baritone sounds. Just getting around to using it on a song I'm working on at the moment so I thought I'd share some pics!

Looks lovely my favourite bass player was Chris Squire from yes. I know it's spelled differently but it makes me think of him. Looking forward to hearing it.

A cool looking instrument Keith...I like tobacco two burst! Are the strings tuned EADGBE or is the low string tuned to B? Can you chord on it? The whammy bar and all the pickup combos/tones could open up one's creativeness madness when jammin' on the bass. Nice grab!

Yes, it is tuned to EADGBE. The strings are also thinner than normal bass strings which both make it very useful to play chords with. Another nice function is a fourth switch that cuts out some of the lower bass frequencies. So it's pretty cool to use for lead parts/rhythm as well!

I'd say that Squier Bass VI certainly went to the right address. I'm sure you'll get a lot of mileage out from it in your songwriting :)

I was slightly curious about those for a while, but then came to the conclusion that it's not for me. I have trouble even understanding that whole baritone thing. For the longest time i was even totally unaware of such things. What next? Bass guitars with 5 strings? Ha... Never gonna happen... Oh wait! :D

Great purchase - that looks really cool. It doesn't look like a bass from the pictures, it looks like a guitar unless you look really closely. And a whammy on the bass - cool. I want one!

That's a very versatile/useful Bass/Guitar instrument...cool!

hey!  your excitement comes through in the post!  so that translates well to outcomes for this particular listener.

crazy awesome.  really busy stuff with the knobs and the switches and yes... leading to tonal variations.

awesome.

Damn! I wish I had friends who would be my personal pawn shop Google Alert.

I somehow assumed that the Bass VI was discontinued in the 1970s. I wouldn't have expected there to be a Squier version since the Squier line of Fender wasn't introduced until 1982.

You'll do great things this bass!

Yeah, it's also awesome since he works our city's Long & McQuade as well (the Canadian Guitar Center) and the pawn shop is just close by. He usually checks it after work. ;)

Squier makes some pretty cool stuff you wouldn't expect. The quality is rock solid as well! Fender has actually started making the Bass VI again in Mexico due to popular demand. Apparently, after The Beatles Get Back documentary released, the Squier VI was the best selling bass of that year...
