Must admit I hadn't realised Duane Eddy died last year.
My humble tribute.
* edit *
I updated the mix a little.
Guitars on this are all done on the Harley Benton LP style, on coil tap positions. It's still wearing fat strings and tuned down two stops from when I did the System of a Down song. That meant I didn't have to do any open strings, which a blessing.
Hell yeah! Great sound going on, I love that low guitar sound with a tremolo effect engaged, such a classic sound! I love every part of this, sounds pro...
A very cool cover! You have "that tremolo" sound down...enjoyed it OHD!
man this mix got me to hit the repeat button right at the start...
wow.. what the hello is this?....
it is hill bill mountain music intermingled with rocabilly or whatever that is..
iow words country and rock in some level form or fashion. I don't know what any of that means that I just typed. However this song is cool AF! However cool level that is and then some.
GROOVY... before there was groovy
This is excellent, Nick - very faithful to the original. As Farrell said, you nailed that tremolo sound!
QuoteMust admit I hadn't realised Duane Eddy died last year.
??...neither did I!
Beautifully played with this are twang with tremolo
I think Duane Eddy was the first rock guitarist who made an impression on me in my early youth.
I particularly liked "dance with the guitar man" with its low E string notes played with vibrato, a gimmick later taken up by Eddy Cochran in "C'mon everybody".
Damn: Duane Eddy had a Gretch model Chet Atkins when I think I was lent this guitar for a few days in the 60s! it had gold-plated mechanics :D ...I think it must have been the only model in France at the time ..it belonged to the guitarist of the "King Bees" a number 1 rock band in my region in France.
He influenced so many guitarists - the Shadows, the Ventures, George Harrisson...and so many others!
In 2024, Eddy was one of 66 musicians credited with collaborating with Mark Knopfler on a re-recording of Knopfler's "Going Home (Theme From Local Hero)".
Thank you for covering this Duane Eddy song so well and paying tribute to him.

Not familiar with the guy so I foundation him at the Letterman show. You sound just like him imho.
i've never even heard of the feller but nevertheless this is a groovy guitar track and well played
I don't like ODH anymore :-[
He makes me regret of buying so much gear...
This sounds great. This is great. You little b*gger! Have a nice day :)
Nice one, Nick, really well done pal.
Heard this when you first posted but not had time to comment on it but spotted it again tonight...doing a bit of catch-up this evening lol.
Well played and certainly got that old 50s twang off to a T.
Pete
I'm back for another listen to this excellent cover of Duane Eddy's Rebel Rouser. You have captured all the key elements that made this song a hit. The tremolo on the guitar and the sax sound great Nick!
Captured that guitar sound perfectly. That was an enjoyable listen
