Title: R.I.P John Sykes
Post by: Mike_S on January 20, 2025, 04:12:15 PM
John Sykes, who played in Thin Lizzy and Whitesnake has passed away unfortunately. Loved his stuff with his own band Blue Murder too. Hell of a player. Rest in peace John.

Rip. I have some tygers of pang tang vinyl somewhere. Great player. Thunder and lightning is one of my favourite Lizzy albums.

Very sad. Great guitarist. And Great hair.

Whitesnake's 1987 was a fine album  too.

Saw quite a few recentish Interviews with the Great man. Very down to earth, grounded and likeable chap..

Perfectly apt Guitarist for the hair band days, coupled with super good looks..

Sound geezer x

I saw him fronting Lizzy in what must have been the late nineties. He was a good singer but that went down as the loudest gig I have ever been to. It was great but it was head splittingly loud.

It was a bit poser hair metal sure, but I thought it was pretty good for the genre..
And Sykes' guitar playing was good enough for me. If I'm honest I preferred the Moody/Marsden/Murray incarnation.

Yeah it was a a pretty dramatic change of sound that album. I mean Coverdale was pretty clued in figuring out how to make it big but yeah musically early Whitesnake for me. Sykes had his place in rock though... his lead on 1987 was brilliant and Blue Murder were awesome
