Title: Tornado Sally
Post by: Farrell Jackson on November 10, 2024, 12:14:46 PM
After listening to the mix I decided a remix was needed to fixed some things that were bothering me. I don't know if it's better or not but at least those those things aren't bothering me anymore, lol.
Tornado Sally is the song that I lost when the hard drive in my Fostex VF160 crashed. I found a used drive on Ebay and it's up and running again. So I had to start from scratch with this song.
2 tracks of electric rhythm (Ernie Ball OLP).
2 tracks of lead guitar and fills with the OLP.
1 track of down and dirty blues harp.
1 track of bass (Squire Jazz)
1 track of A/E Ibanez Talman.
3 tracks of lead and harmony vocals.
2 tracks of Zoom drums.
I used a Crate V5 Tube amp mic'ed with a MXL Ribbon mic for all guitars and harmonica.
And a Neumann TLM 103 mic for all the vocals.
Tornado Sally (Farrell Jackson ©08-10-24)
(V1) A thunder storm is on the horizon
Birds in the sky, swirling and divin'
An erie silence, hangin'  in the air
A rumbling train, going nowhere
(V2) The whistle blows a high pitched warning
In a couple of hours, the sun breaks mornin'
Make a quick decision, to get out of town
Or hang around to see what goes down
(Chr) Waiting with shallow breath. There ain't no time  to rest
A wild force in the valley. Tornado Sally's coming down the alley
(solos guitar and harmonica)
(V3) She'll be prancin' and dancin' on the table tops
And kick you in the face if you tell her to stop
She'll throw a beer across the room
Take cover boys, she's lookin' for a groom
(V4) The twisted sister, comes once a year
Mean as a devil with a nasty stare
She'll have a smile but you'll have a frown
Lawdy momma, Sally's touched down
(Chr) Waiting with shallow breath. There ain't no time  to rest
A wild force in the valley. Tornado Sally's coming down the alley
(Repeat Chorus)

well hell man... if this is just so damn great... just reading your process I am going... yeah... I don't know a darned thing..

this song rocks to the stratosphere... it is like those trillion watt lasers they are pointing at the sky.

trillion of watt of pure rock goodness right here Farrell.. I swear there is an organ in here... but it gotta be the harp and guitars.  the mix is so great.

cool stuff...

you should write a follow on about a poor chap that takes her up... or maybe a dude that wrangles her and tames her and the two live happily forever.

Great groove in this swampy blues track, Farrell. Excellent guitar work and that blues harp coming in from the left is awesome. Vocals, instrumentation is all stellar and I would've loved to be in on this one if only playing some keys or whatever. Love it.

This was way more brooding than i thought it would be.

Instead of an ode for women of ill repute you took it into other realms.

That southern rock meets swamp dogs boogie really twisted my brain and those vocs certainly fit the bill.

A winner in my books.

This is hammer on city, love it! Haven't listened to anything of your's and very glad I caught this one!

Really loved your guitar work as well and especially that one that was kind of on the right side a little bit.

Hell heah!

Bummer about your Fostex but you did a great job of recovering the song.  Enjoyed it.

Yes this is the kinda bluesy stuff I'd listen to.
Lots to like first the vox are just cool then the riff brings it together.

this is the real deal, as I knew it would be!  Love the main riff and your vocal, but really all the parts are great. awesome recovery from that initial equipment failure.  That old deck sure does have some serious mojo!

I heard this song a bunch of times because it rocks that hard... and ok I am going to get tagged for blaspheme .... this is better than SRV or his brother could ever have done... I will be securing my compound now (realizes doesn't have a compound to secure)... wait I hear a drone coming in even as I type.

one of the things that really makes this sizzle to me is the way you sing the lines with the lead guitar there in spots... that gets me every time...

I still think you should write a follow on to this... this one gets the "hell yeahs" going...
