Title: Hamster Wheel
Post by: Ray Brookes on May 15, 2024, 01:46:27 PM
Two-A-Penny standing on the corner
Waiting for the nights first john
Telephone way out of credit
No chance to call anyone
Here comes Hotshot De Angelo
In his top-down pimpmobile
Checking on his chicks to see they're turning tricks
Got 'em all on his hamster wheel.

Gonna be a night for sinners
Gonna be a hot busy night
De Angelo keeping it all controlled
Everything nailed down tight
Some teenage boys cruising
Looking to make their first deal
Two A Penny using and losing
Stuck forever on the hamster wheel.

Two A Penny disappeared one night
Got into the wrong car
The window of fate left open
The door of fate left ajar
Here comes Hotshot De Angelo
A replacement close on his heels
Lying down, standing up or kneeling
Another stuck on his hamster wheel.

fuck me with a pogo stick!  man... dude..

this is way above anything I ever read... or heard.

sure, the subject is one I am well aware of and have read some great things and seen wonderful commentary on it... but never, ever, ever as poignant and well delivered...

omg Ray!

Great song Ray... love the percussion, and those mental guitar bits. You tell great stories with your music.

I love the way the vocals are treated here, with a 'dry' voice in the lower sections, which gives a feeling of closeness, and then a slightly reverberated voice in the upper sections.

I really appreciate when I click on one of your posts, I'm not quite sure what I'll get besides quality.

Laying down the guitar for this did sound like fun. Very cool post despite the rather dark subject matter.

Brilliant use of space in this song like JP said, the use of dry/reverby vocals is very effective. Sweet use of feedbacking guitars too!

Truly inventive Ray! Barnstormer mate! I love all the moods and swings and I love the line "Checking on his chicks to see they're turning tricks"! Great stuff bro.

Sad but true story for many people.
What an amazing sounding track.
The  vocal sound is crystal clear and as usual the instrumentation is outstanding.
Brilliant composition.

The intro with the percussion and the harmony lead guitar riff made my ears perk up. And then the story begins with a droning vocal that has me on the edge of my chair. The lead guitar work is exceptional and mixed/played perfectly. My mind is going round and round with the image of life on a hamster wheel...well done Ray!

What a great story. You would make a good book or film writer Ray. I bloody love that rhythmic Congo beat, drum thing going on throughout, really sets the pace for the theme.
Music is excellent throughout. No one can write songs like this as good as you.
