Researching Dylan covers I came across this by Sonic Youth, one of my favourite bands.
It's an obscure one Dylan recorded only once in a session with the Band. He never performed it live and for a long time it was only available on a bootleg.
There's no known transcript of the original lyric and it's difficult or impossible to decipher them, so in the Sonic Youth version they developed what was known into a coherent lyric. There are five verses in the SY version, Dylan's has eight.
Jesus, this is a late sixties psychedelic freak out. Has the weirdness of pre-David Gilmour Floyd with a dose of Sgt. Peppers.
I might tame either the volume or the girth of the bass a tad to make the lyrics more intelligible (to this codger's ear).
Crikey, that is wonderful.

Thanks Blooby. I went back this morning and rejigged the levels, trying to demuddy it.
The attached version is an update.
